  1. In the EPL a few years ago they went pro and it hasn't really helped the standard too much, you still don't get decisions against the " big " clubs. Last week v utd we had two stonewall penalties turned down while the score was 0-1 , so it could have made a difference. Home to Spurs 83rd min 1-2 down and we equalise,,, but no chalked off for a "push" that the Spurs defender didn't even appeal for ( and you know what defenders are like when a goal goes in,,, appeal for anything) we go on to lose 1-4 and look like we have been well beaten when, in fact, it was a decent game til we chased and commited too many forward in the last mins. Anyway to get to the above post, at the same time as the refs went pro they started to train some to just run the line, they would still ref at National league level, but in the top four divisions they would only run the line. One of these who went on to be a have a good career ( some European games and Internationals ) was our postman and he used to tell us anecdotes as well. Similar to the above was also told to him by a very famous ( at the time) EPL referee, but he even wanted them just to put the flag straight up for throw-ins until he had indicated which way, then they signalled the way he had pointed. I still see some linos doing the same thing now, so I often wonder if some refs still give the same instructions and it annoys me when pundits give the linos grief, when they may have been ordered not to bring anything to the attention of the ref.
  2. Well that brings back some memories of my mum and dad. Besides being that Bournemouth fan asking about Cargills progress, I was also born in the Southern General and lived the first couple of my years at Striven Gardens. My dad was a Thistle fan, my brother and sister went to Hillhead high school, I can remember going to the Burnbank bowling club aged about three and winning sixpences out of the fruity, my mum talking about Buchanan Street. Like I said memories, thanks for posting it.
  3. Hi, thanks, there is a special feeling when you support a small club ( since the time of MacDougall mentioned above ) and you beat one of the big boys on their own patch and the best thing is we didn't park the bus ( we couldnt if we tried ), but played our game and we appear to have rediscovered our goal touch that was missing early season.
  4. Baily became a squad player when we had just got promoted to the Championship and played a few, mainly cup, games. He then got an injury which hampered his progress, whilst we did the unthinkable ( a few years ago ) and hit the PL. Whilst, if we were in our normal L1, I would have thought Baily would be a first teamer now, I think he has been overtaken by at least one other youngster in the pecking order, so could possibly be looking to move on at the season end. I was trying to think of a link between the clubs (no disrespect intended here )because it came as a surprise to move to the Jags. The only one I can think of is that Eddie Howe is Steve Lovells half brother and he had that short spell at Thistle, maybe he put a word in. Oh and sorry, no way can you have the "wee man" ( Ryan Fraser ), he is very much a fans favourite here.
  5. Hi there, Bournemouth fan here. I know it's just two games, but I was wondering how Baily was shaping up?
