Thistle v Motherwell

Well I guesss Alan Archibald has tried almostĀ  every permutation of players and formations, but with little success.Ā  Last Friday the players gave their all, but in the second half we were reduced to punting long balls in the direction of Sammon.Ā  What does he do tomorrow night?Ā

I'm not sure that Sammon and Doolan are a good combination, and I would prefer Doolan to start alone up front, but the main difficulty lies in choosing a midfield that can provide quick ball.Ā  I suspect that he will start with Woods, McCarthy, Erskine , Edwards and Lawless in midfield, and I hope that Booth is fit and that Barton starts - he looked fine on Friday in the back line.

Barton gives me nerves sometimes, but I'd prefer him to Devine at the back. I see the magnificent Chris Erskine

as our key man tomorrow night: if he's firing and getting into good positions like he was on Friday, then I fancy us.

2-1 Thistle.Ā

Shitey encounter on BT atm between Livi and the scabby Arabs. Neither of them fill me with dread.Ā

I am going to agree with your teamĀ and just add a little extra rider.

If Callum Booth cannot make it (and he will be a big loss), we keep Christie Elliott in his best position at right back and bring in our No 2 specialist left back, James Penrice.Ā  Added bonus of good dead ball delivery, especially if Spittal is not starting.

Just do not want a right back trying to play left back. I know that Christie used to make a decent fist of it on the left in his days as a utility substitute. But the better he has become at right back, the harder he finds it to replicate the same level at left back.

On the Thistle forum on P&B someone is saying Booth is out for the rest of the season, return for play offs at best. If So, it's got to be Elliott at RWB and Penrice at LWB. Ā If Archie decides it's McGinn and Elliott then he truly has lost it. I think McGinn had a decent game last Friday, but Elliott was poor by his standards. He has definitely nailed down our RWB position.Ā

Regards team for this I'd go

Cerny

Elliott Ā Keown Ā Cargill Penrice

Woods McCarthy

Erskine Edwards Spittal

Sammon.

Well itā€™s almost now or never. Ā I suspect Ross C will get a win v Dundee tonight meaning we have to go for it. Ā The worry also being that if Ross C take an early lead that might flatten our support. Ā Lets go for it Jags early doors just like our December meeting and have that news seep through to Dingwall and Hamilton.

Agree with most of that team but definitely Doolan for Sammon or weā€™ll just revert to type by launching the ball long up the park as we did most of the game against Ross County, with the players weā€™ve got that works against us .

If possible 3-4-2-1

Need 3 at the back to manage physical threat.

2 wing backs.

2 central midfielders

Erskine and Edwards finding space

Dools movement and awareness to make and find space while helping us to STOP LUMPING IT UP THE PARK.

Cerny

Devine Barton Cargill

Elliott Woods McCarthyĀ Booth

Erskine Edwards

Doolan

Saw chris erskine saying the very same thing. Ball on the deck, straight through the middle. Then the fish on later in game for cross balls from wide.Ā

Agree with the calls to keep Christie at RB.Ā  Moving him to LB takes away one of our assets just in order to fill a position.Ā  Would even rather see Dumbaya at LB, as unlikely as that seems now.Ā  He did ok there at Fir Park.Ā Ā

Ā

Hopefully, we can start the game with the intensity required and keep it going.Ā  Hoping Motherwell have taken their foot off the gas until the cup final.

Don't you mean the game before the cup final when they playĀ Hamilton at home.

Archie won't have "lost it" if he fails to select Penrice. There's many a reason as to why he's not featured even on the bench since his return. I have no knowledge as to what reason he's not been included tho' I have seen him appear for the U20s two or three times where I thought by his standards he was rather poor.

I don't know if Cargill is fit to play and if not then it's rather alarming having to go with two right sided in the left defensive positions. I would expect a fully fit Penrice would at least make it onto the bench but if that doesn't happen that certainly doesn't mean the manager has "lost it".

Nobody who watchedĀ  last Fridays game can say that Sammon should start in place of Doolan.Ā  Sammon contributed very little and should have been subbed,Ā DoolanĀ always offers a threatĀ and assisted the goal.Ā

Its all about opinions and Barton has got pelters on this forum in recent times but I thought he was excellent when he came on. He kept his head when all around were losing theirs and actually tried to play football playing a couple of great passes andĀ played a big partĀ in theĀ  pressure we put on in the last few minutes. I'd be happy to see him in the team again tonight although I would still worry if he was part of aĀ 2 man central defence.

Archie has been lost all season

If Ross County take an early lead then I've got my eye on 10th! 9 goals swing isn't that huge in the context of two wins and two defeats. A 3-0 win for usĀ over Dundee would account for 6 of them alone. #hopelessdreamer?

I wish that Archie would give penrice a chance. He hasnā€™t done anything wrong. Poor kid must be wondering why he bothered to sign a new deal.Ā Would rather he played than McGinn. McGinn does give 100% but is absolutely useless going forward.Ā
