Was there not a similar incident with Archie & Novo?

That's the one I was referring to in my earlier post from  league game in August 2001. Archie marked him out the game and at one point he threw himself to the floor to try to get a foul, Archie leaned over him and I'm sure just politely told him to get up and he threw a punch and got sent off.

A bit of news, or rather non news. Anton Dowds will NOT be getting recalled in January. We held an option to do so.

At least we did have the option to recall him but with Diack's recent form I think we are okay without him.

The Key Question is thus - we received £500K in “ investment” a few weeks ago - TJF are putting in circa £130k to the Club - we had record Season Ticket Sales and Match Attendances at Home Gamed are Healthy - so why are we having to Crowd Fund the January Transfer Window - where did the £500K Investment go ? Where is TJF cash going ?

yet again - fans to cough up - but no real answers on the finances

Shareholders are there to hold Boards to account - Crowdfunding the Transfer Window ? Seriously ?

You are a shareholder. You can ask the question at the AGM.

I'm sure someone from TJF can answer much better than me. As far as I understand the £500k will be sitting in bank account intentionally not being spent so that there is never any future cashflow issues similar to earlier in year that would threaten clubs survival. Some of it will only be used in short term if there is a bill to be paid and money will then be replaced by prize/sponsor money etc shortly afterwards. The only other scenario I would suspect would be if a major repair was needed to stadium. Spending the money on team hoping to get promotion would not be the plan as that sort of short term thinking is what got us in to trouble last season.

  4. I also thought that first game Williams played at right back Lawless really helped him by always being available for a pass so he didn't get caught in possession and as a result his confidence has increased over last few games and he looks a much better player now having had to switch to left back.

The above post got me thinking: Are there examples of a Thistle light, speedy, direct running type of forward who was having no joy being replaced by a sub who was let's say, not the most mobile but a big, strong nuisance with a bit of skill, and the sub goes ahead and scores? I don't mean in just one game, but in several games, thus becoming a kind of super-sub.

    Edited for grammar and punctuation!

Not exactly Thistle but that has worked for Scotland in last couple of years several times when we've taken off Che Adams and brought on Lyndon Dykes

I like the idea of Ngwenya and Milne (with Ngwenya usually, but not always, further forward) combining on the left side as an alternative to Fitzpatrick for at least part of a game. I cannot remember on which side Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge played together for Chelsea, but both being very attacking they could play some great moves going forward (often switching positions) but also both being defenders, there was never any problem about one, the other or both covering back.

That's what Robertson and Tierney do on left side for Scotland and it seems to work well.

  7. As well as changing starting 11 last year several of the players who dropped out got the night off so there were limited options on bench. As long as we have full strength bench then I think it would be sensible to give at least Adeloye and Robinson chance to start game with Williams also having to come in for Neilson.

But it isn't really a deadline day for us, unless we were intending on parting with some cash we don't have.

Yes, exactly. To be honest I don't really pay much attention on deadline day from a Thistle perspective as any players we are likely to sign would be loan deals or free agents which we can still sign afterwards.

The McCall sacking was an interesting one. I thought the timing was off and it was asking a lot of Doolan to step in and make sure we made top 4. Doolan did really well and got us into a position that didn't look likely under McCall.

However at the time it seemed a marginal call on if replacing McCall would get us any higher up the league and you can't really blame the manager for spending on the playing squad if the board sanction it. So I often wondered if there was another reason behind it.

Did the new board realise they needed to cost cut and asked McCall to bin one of his coaching staff to reduce costs and McCall said its all of us or none of us? Did the board take the view that McCall and coaching teams staff were getting paid too much and the sooner they acted the sooner there would be a cost reduction?

Is Doolan and McDonald on significantly less than McCall, Archie and Scally? It was rumoured Kenny Arthur was working his notice at one point, was he actually ending his current contract and coming back on reduced terms?

Maybe there was a financial aspect to removing McCall that wasn't just about how much had been spent on the playing squad or wasn't absolutely related to performances?

As far as I understand (might have been said at TJF AGM) as they still had to pay notice period for McCall etc and Doolan and McDonald were already on payroll there was no saving or increased cost because of sacking decision in short term at least.

Archie has now found a new job so presumably is no longer working notice period as garden leave so potential saving there now.

  10. Looks like hopefully some incoming players soon according to Kris at bottom of article on official site:

“I can assure fans I have been working around the clock over the past two weeks on securing deals with players who want to play for Partick Thistle next season and we will be able to begin announcing some of those this week. The response from Jags fans over the past fortnight or so has been nothing short of remarkable, in particular season ticket sales, which is a huge boost and makes me even more proud to be Partick Thistle manager.”

    This from the Times article.

“TJF have already donated £50,000 to the club to ease some of the pressure, and have pledged a further £10,000 a month for the next year. There’s just one problem – the organisation doesn’t currently generate that much revenue.”

Anyone care to comment on this somewhat troubling statement? Is it true? I’d hate to see us in a Save The Jags Foundation scenario.

This was discussed during Q&A last night and due to increased membership and existing members increasing their donation amount there appears to be no issue with fulfilling this commitment.

Do we get some extra cash for it being on Sky ?

I don't think so. I think these games are just part of Sky's overall package so their fee goes in to overall prize money pot.

  13. Question for the archivists.

I was thinking this on way home last night, is this the longest season we have ever had? Without a break for world cup/winter break etc our first competitive game was on July 9th 2022 and our final game will be on 4th June 2023, almost 11 months.
