  1. Dundee look dangerous coming forward but we’ve had more of the play. Both teams have had good chances. A draw would be a fair reflection of the first half. Big second half required and the Jags are shooting into a busy JLS.
  2. Great result today. As said earlier, Dundee bossed the first half altho we had a couple of chances. At half time Mansell for DeVita was good as it gave us a target upfront and Mansell was a handful for their defence - he won the ball regularly and had some nice touches to teammates. Gordon for O'Ware worked as well as Gordon gave us some impetus going forward and he linked the play from back-to-front really well today. We had a couple of chances before the equaliser. A pass across goal (I think from Williamson) into a crowded box for Cardle to fresh-air his shot! And a header from a corner from Harkins that had us all wondering if it was one of those days and we were not going to score. Kenny grabbing the equaliser was excellent. He doesn't do much in a game (moaning aside) but he can find the net when he gets a chance. Gordon took his goal really well as I thought his angle was good for the keeper, but he found the corner brilliantly. And really pleased for Mansell getting his goal - I like his application and he is a handful. If he can accompany that with more goals then he'll be a good contributor upfront. Please no more Miller, DeVita and Cardle in the same line-up. They are all good on the ball but off the ball they are not pressuring teams or mobile enough. But, brilliant result!.... and love the "We've got McCall....." song......
  3. Half time. Dundee bossing this altho we’ve had a couple of chances. Miller, Cardel and de Vita are two slow. No pace up front when we’re going forward so we’re always playing the game in front of their defence. We definitely need new attacking options and someone with pace (no, not Miles Storey!!) Too many players showing too much respect to their opposite numbers and not getting in about them.
  4. What was most disappointing about today was that we just didn't do the basics well at all. In the first half especially our pressing was awful. The players were closing down Alloa players but rarely putting a tackle in to win the ball. When we were pressing high we didn't do it as a team, so there was always an out-ball for Alloa. Our passing was woeful. Penrice, Bannagan and Gordon were all rank. The defence was sluggish, taking too many touches and the team wasn't working as a collective. The formation looked wrong and the team picked to play it looked and felt wrong. Alloa should have been 2 or 3 up by the end of the first half. Why we didn't change the team at half time or even before half time? Everyone could see that it was going badly. The second half was more even. Alloa were on top when we scored and we had a good 10 to 15 minutes after that when Miller came on. But Alloa countered our changes and the game played out fairly evenly with a couple of chances at either end. Alloa will feel as though that was two points dropped. What was really worrying was the lack of aggression and cohesiveness as a team. We looked disjointed, sluggish and meek. We're a quiet team on the park - where are the leaders? On a positive note, wee Joe Cardle did well and the Alex Jones' song was entertaining!
  5. Storey actually does a good job making runs, using his strength and getting to the ball. It's hard to see who else in the team could fill that role. The problem is when he gets the ball there is very, very, very, very rarely any end product. Caldwell has to figure out that it doesn't matter if he's fast and strong because he does not produce any opportunities. Our defense needs to both move the ball quicker and learn how to commit an opposition player. Too many times a defender (McGinty) who's under no pressure just punts it forward. Why is he not bringing it forward and committing one of their men to open up space for one of our other players. It's just basics! So feckin' frustrating!!
  6. Another major letdown today. Total silence in the car on the way back. All scunnered after over a year and a half of pish. It was pretty clear early on today that our 3-4-3 set-up was not working and I was hoping that Caldwell would make a change earlier than half-time. Dools had a chance just before their goal but it resulted in a pretty tame shot straight at their keeper. WTF was going on for their goal. Elliott had the chance to punt the ball out of the park or play it back to Sneddon. But, another instance where our defence tries to play out when under pressure and loses the ball. Both Elliott and Keown should know by now that they regularly get caught-out and to play it safe. Sneddon didn't have to come off his line either. Stuck in no-mans-land and was equally at fault. That's a couple of goals we've lost where I though he's come off the line too quickly. Apart from that I think he's done well. Second half we were much better. 4-4-1-1 was good and we started to get some momentum going forward. I thought that Erskine's quick passing and link-play helped us move forward quickly - and that McArthy played well in stopping any counter-attacks and keeping us on the front foot. Slater, Spittal and Elliott were linking well down the left during this phase as well. Then, a good finish to bring us level. After that it looked like only one team would go on to get the winner and we had Morton on the back foot. Dools had a goal disallowed for offside but it looked like it was going in before he touched it. Then, we manage to lose the ball (loose pass from Slater) and not deal with a quick break up field. There were another two golden opportunities. One when Dools touched the ball back to Scobbie but he fired to close to their keeper. And another Slater shot that McGinty deflected and it scuffed the wrong side of the post. I think we were unlucky to lose the game. We could well have won it. But, the defense really needs improved in the transfer window. I'd bring in a whole new defense. 2 central defenders and 2 full-backs please.
  7. It was Slater's pass that went astray that started it.
  8. To the tune of silent night: We are shite, ******* shite Total crap, got no fight We pray that Mary fae Maryhill Will have a wean tae grace Firhill And the Jags redeemer is born Afore we're down with the 'Ton
  9. Despite Alloa looking quite good going forward, I though that our play in the first half merited the lead. Good movement up-front created quite a few good chances. Unfortunately, Alloa's goal was a defensive error, kick-out by their goalie (the "purple fud"), poor clearance by Scobbie and then poor defending by Jeffries to let the boy get past him so easily. What was worrying was that Alloa had three guys in the box waiting to finish off the pass (we were too slow getting back). Second half was a different story. They bossed us for the majority of the half and too many of our players were posted missing.... A couple of times in the game Penrice had attackers running at him and he ran back instead of steering them away from goal. Somebody needs to show him how to position himself so that the attacker is steered into a less-dangerous zone. Running away from them isnae helping.
  10. Our tactics are just too obvious. Get the ball out to the wings and try and overlap. Everyone knows that's what we'll do and keep doing even if it's not working. Then, on the odd occasion we get in behind the opposition, there's nobody in the middle because they're all out on the wings trying to get an overlap. There are some good players in the team and we should be fighting for top 4. But, we're tactically far too easy to play against.
  11. Boll0x! 3 - 0 definitely flattered them.
  12. I wonder if the "relegation clause" in the players' contracts gives the club the right to terminate early, as opposed to the player, or maybe it's both. I remember hearing that the clause was there to "protect the club" suggesting that it's the club's option to terminate.
  13. I think that partly the reason we were so flat yesterday was that St. Johnstone are very well organised. Every time we went out wide and they had appropriate cover and our plan to get overlaps with Booth/Lawless or Spittal/Elliott were lacking. However, that must mean that there are gaps elsewhere that we just didn't find because we're very one-dimensional. There was a lot of space in the middle, but very rarely anyone in that hole looking for a pass. St. Johnstone looked as though they had an extra man than us yesterday. Always first to the second ball and more dangerous in attack - whereas we always looked outnumbered and struggling to find any space. I'm not sure if this is down to being less well-organised and drilled as a team, or having players that just can't read the game as well, or a bit of both. The effort and determination showed versus Hamilton seemed to drop a level yesterday. It was still good from many players but, at this stage of the season, I want to see them leave everything out there. 3 points is a must against Ross County. Let's get everyone we know along to give them the lift they need.
  14. Just in, not because I live across the road from Swinecastle, but because I left when the 3rd goal went in. Booth, Elliott and Erskine OK for the first half, Cerny, Osman, Cargill and Devine were a disaster. Dools, Woods, Storey and Lawless less than average. What's most worrying is the lack of fight. It looked from the start that we had no options going forward and that Hearts were cutting through us with ease. Championship beckons!
  15. I felt confident yesterday as soon I saw the line-up. Defense looked solid and with Booth there gave us a real threat on the left going forward. Midfield holding pair looked solid, good creativity in Erskine and Lawless and pace with Sammon and Storey. Plus the whole balance of the team from right to left looked the strongest it's been all season. I thought everyone played their position very well. Pleasing to see Lawless and Storey play so well on the left and right and getting back to defend well too. If I could criticise anyone it would be Erskine (who, as we all know, is definitely one of our best on his day) - he seemed to be back on his heels and lacking match-fitness. Don't know why Cerny went mental at the penalty award - I couldn't see it clearly at the game, but it looks a penalty in the highlights. Could've got himself sent off too with his reaction.... Edwards was great when he came on. Good assist for Sammon's goal and good finish for his goal. Feeling much more confident that we can avoid relegation than I was previously. :-)
