  1. Scrappy game but we were the better team with more ideas. Defence great in second half when ref took over and did what Beaton does. Every time a Dundee player fell down they got a free kick. Eight clean sheets out of eleven! Mon the Jags!
  2. Trains from Livi to the West are off so am languishing relying on the Jagzone commentary. Boo hoo!
  3. What about that weather then? Looks awful further east at the moment (around 8.30am) How is it in Maryhill?
  4. We lost 7-2 at Pittodrie the week after our big day in 1971. Seems a hundred years ago.
  5. Our best result in the Cup in nine years and we get 90 seconds on this show. Not even any comment on how well we did. Nineteen minutes for Aberdeen, 18 for Celtic. Add on Cosgrove's yards of sarcasm earlier in the evening and we have to say the BBC really think less than nothing about us. National broadcaster? Aye right!
  6. We should ALL get on to Cosgrove about his team this weekend. All the bleating from him and the manager of his team that the latter "doesn't get recognition" should be highlighted by us. How long can Scottish football continue if this is what a manager of one of our supposed best teams thinks is right? The way the Perth team approached the game never got better than dire!!! "The beautiful game"? Don't make me laugh.
  7. What St Johnstone do to football matches is a disgrace! And people wonder why their manager doesn't get a gig down south? They are awful to watch and with our lack of guile we could never pick our way past the equivalence of ten dustbins in the second half. If that is what Scottish football has become I might not be going back much in the future. Every coming together of players it was always us who got punished as well. What a miserable night!
  8. Yup! Today it looked like men against boys. Body strength meant so much. Skill, unless outrageous, cannot make up for frailty. Having said that I thought Andy McCarthy was outstanding. He is one of these players who always seems to have that half second that less skilful players just don't. His passing was as good as it gets. I hope he makes it right to the top. As my old dad would have said " there were some gey hairy ersed boys " playing for the Fifers!
  9. Couldn't agree more with PtheD. We seem to do ALL our attacking from the wings and I believe there was a survey done in the last few years which said something along the lines of very few goals being scored from crosses (with all teams everywhere) But the problem, too, is that we are just not good enough to play wee one twos in and around the box. So "the dog" is right, hit it more often. But then again watching the shooting practice before matches we are dire at that too. But I do agree about deflections, lucky bounces etc
  10. I wasn't at the game nor able to hear our own commentary but I did listen to the BBC Scotland one. It was a fair enough description only for Willie Miller to come on after the game and be utterly scathing about the play; that all that was happening was the teams were booting it forward, the passing was terrible etc. This man gets on my t-ts! He seems to take every opportunity to bad mouth the teams(like us) with less money in the division. And, it would appear that his word is gospel because now the word going round is that the game was truly awful, stemming, I guess, from his negative words. Was it really as bad as all that? A question to those who attended.
  11. Just watching Cambridge vLeeds in FA Cup and this big forward is causing havoc with the Leeds backline. Built like our Ade but doing what Ade does a lot better than Ade. Scored a super goal. Now there's a novel concept for a big, strong forward with an African background. Hope the idea catches on!
  12. Did Motherwell not score one at Firhill late on which would have stolen a victory? Maybe I'm wrong?
  13. You know from my 60 years experience going along and suffering at Firhill today was an improvement!! I was sure that it was going to be one of those days where we dominated a lot of the play and they scored late on and we went down Firhill Road with cumulative tails between legs and bemoaning the fact that "it's just what Thistle do!" But we ARE better. We got a point and into the second half I was willing to settle for that. If the weather had been better I feel we would have won. Think Archie is doing a great job and we have some cracking players. The second half of the season might just be our best yet in the top flight! Have a good break lads and come out in the second half of January believing that you ARE really good. Best of luck to everybody on here in 2017.
  14. Just have to say that Alan Muir was just awful. I cannot believe what he was giving fouls for and how many of our players got booked? I thought he spoiled the game totally. How many free kicks in our half did he give Dundee in the second half. All they had to do was back in and fall down. We look very naive to this sort of tactic and there are quite a few teams in the division at it. It was good to win ugly for a change . Roll on Saturday!
  15. Good story about Stevie and his golf. A pal of mine played with him in the early 70's in the Bathgate Golf Club 36 hole open. At the 7th hole in the morning his drive hit the marker pole for the hole, some 180 yards from the tee. AND same hole in the afternoon he did the same thing again. To hit the marker once is unusual but to do it twice in the one day is a millions to one shot. Decent man by all accounts and sorry to hear he is struggling a bit.
  16. Hear that he's not so well. Sorry to hear.
  17. Erskine laid on the "goal" at Hamilton- Booth scored it. Just saying!
  18. I have always thought that we are better away because teams(generally) play pretty tight against us at Firhill. We are certainly better with teams coming on to us and this is what tends to happen away from home. Even if they don't quite attack us on their own grounds the pressure is on them to do so and there is certainly more room for us in that case. It will be very interesting to see how Dundee and Killie approach their visits to Firhill. If they put up a wall we might find the same problems we have had all year - not very good at breaking down a massed defence. We did well at Celtic because we were in their faces as they attacked us and we looked okay against Rangers as well because they didn't sit back at Firhill. In "a fair fight" we are doing well but teams tend not to want to play it that way against us. So the next couple are going to be very interesting.
  19. The forecast is dire for the time of the match in the frozen north. It's showing 60mph winds. Farcical surely . Do you think sense will prevail and it will be postponed early?
  20. Agree totally with Wayfarer. Robertson was just awful as , to be fair, he is ANY time he referees the Jags. All Hearts players had to do was lie down and he gave them a free kick. Some of them were laugh out loud ridiculous. And what did we not get? There was a Jags player in the first half (couldn't see at the distance)nearly got halved on the left of their penalty area as we looked at it and I thought he was giving us some sort of play on advantage as we had the ball. Was sure he would go back and book the Hearts player but nothing happened. Then Ade was crudely attacked from the back on the half way line. No! Just play on! There was understandable ironic cheering when he gave us anything. Just awful and the number of times he set them up by letting their indiscretions go or giving them a frankly silly free kick in a dangerous position, I lost count of. You know he was on Thistle's books and he didn't make the grade. Maybe he's just carrying the grudge on?
  21. Great to see the fight in the players in the second half. Very impressive! In truth I did NOT feel our bunch of players had that dig in them. I was prepared to believe that our lack of It was the reason we have suffered in cup competition in recent years. But everybody up for it, really taking it to Hearts. Special mention for Edwards, Barton, Lindsay, Welsh and Erskine when he came on though who didn't put in a shift. And if only we had a striker...... that could have been 4-1 to the Jags. Very proud of them tonight!
  22. There are at least nine teams in the league, maybe even eleven, who would die to have Barton at the centre of their defence. Archie and Shaggy did that!!! They brought him to us when everybody was looking for a good central defender. We will come good because they know what they are doing.
  23. I do think there should be a reality check with some guys on here. Our players get one pound for every eight that go to the Blue Bigots. Yes we've seen it all before but if anybody really thought that there weren't huge signs of improvement from us today then they weren't looking at what I was looking at. We are short of Cerny, Bannigan, Dumbaya and Fraser. We played with a different formation and I thought we played very well. Give them a chance and I am sure we'll get out of this.
  24. Yeah! Amazing number of bad losers and some even narky when they win. I suppose the greatest of them all was Sir Alex. I think you give the opposition an advantage for the next time when you act like Wright and McInnes. I am really fed up with the ungracious Wright. "We never get any credit or get talked about!" My a--e!! Cosgrove is the Saintees PR manager as Is Cowan for the Fir Park crew. Their blindness to views outwith their own clubs gets ever more wearing. Now the Jags NEVER get the publicity these two clubs get because we have nobody in the media to fight our corner and even Archie (one of his traits) is modest to a fault and never blows the Thistle trumpet. That is maybe to our detriment.
  25. Our man might be a good shout for this award. From bottom of the league to 7th, two draws and two wins. What do you think?
