  1. Fair enough Hopefully we get some positive news next week and we can look forward to watching Thistle again and get back to discussing the team's performance instead of lockdowns and tiers
  2. Again I don't agree with the correlation between schools and football and that one cannot return without the other. If the Government had stipulated the shutdown of football and said that it couldn't return until schools did then I could understand it. I know that for many in this thread it seems to be boiling down to a moral decision of whether football should be continuing when other parts of society cannot. But the reality is that these are not the parameters that the SFA & SPFL are working within.
  3. I can understand your line of thinking but it's your point completely moot due to the Championship and Premier League still playing? It's clear that elite sport is being allowed to operate outwith the constraints that are affecting everything else. The SG haven't at any point stipulated that any football has to stop so why the insistence that the lower leagues not starting is tied to Schools or tiers/levels is a bit of a mystery to me. We may not be allowed to return to playing by the SFA/SPFL but the clubs certainly seem pretty confident about it. That alone makes me think they must have had encouraging signs from the SFA that a re-start is probable.
  4. So do I Probably for the same reasons they started the lower leagues in the first place. There are plenty of clubs that are wanting to play and the SPFL can't ignore them. Look at Brechin for example, one club who you'd probably think would want to bin the season but they have signed a player in this transfer window. So you'd think they're expecting football to resume at some stage, with their chairman on the SPFL board. I know that's tenuous at best but it's maybe an insight into how the SPFL board are looking at it.
  5. No, it's probably not but then again neither is QOTS v Caley Thistle but those sorts games are going ahead because the Scottish Government have said that elite sport can continue. I think that renders the point of whether football games are necessary completely moot. The bottom line is that the SPFL have the power to start up the lower leagues any time they see fit, it's completely different to the situation we had back in March 2020 whereby the leagues were not allowed to restart. With the downward trends in cases continuing then the SPFL will likely begin talks with the clubs with regards to re-starting. As I have noted before, the effect that a small number of footballers travelling around the country will have on the spread of this virus in comparison to people travelling to and working on building sites and in factories every day is pretty miniscule.
  6. Well yes, that is all based on the assumption that the clubs want to re-start but I think that there will be enough of them looking to do that. Nicola Sturgeon has been pretty clear that decisions on whether football continues, at the moment anyway, is completely in the hands of the SFA/SPFL. I don't know why the country would have to move to level 2 of restrictions to allow part time football to continue when it played for months in Level 3 and 4 prior to the new year. There has been absolutely zero suggestion from anyone in Government that this would be required. I think that now the kick up over the Dubai situation is beginning to settle down the SPFL will be more open to re-opening the leagues. I also don't see why there should be such a worry about a limited number of football players and staff travelling and playing games when thousands of people country wide are travelling daily to manufacturing and construction sites. I appreciate that there is an economic trade off with regards to manufacturing and construction but from a public health or "PR" perspective it's obvious what is the one with the least amount of risk.
  7. I'm not totally convinced that the season will be finished prematurely, as it stands the Government have not actually stipulated that we have to stop playing. That decision was made by the SPFL/SFA due to the current prevalence of the virus in the community. If you look at the daily numbers when the league started in mid october they were trending upwards and reached a peak of 1700 odds the week after our first game. They began trending downwards after this point until christmas time when they began going up again. So what we can see is that they allowed football at our level to commence when cases were rising and we were hitting the same daily numbers as we are now. The numbers we are currently seeing are beginning to decrease, albeit slowly, so it's not entirely out of the question that by next week we are seeing a decline in cases and hospital admissions and we can begin moving towards starting the league again. It's also worth remembering that we began the leagues in October when there was no vaccine on the immediate horizon. The rollout of this is now well underway and this will be getting ramped up as weeks go on. I think as long as the numbers continue to trend downwards then we'll see the resumption of the leagues by mid to end of February.
  8. SFA have shut down all football below the Championship for a period of 3 weeks, including the Scottish Cup. Championship will be allowed to continue on the basis that they begin regular testing of the players and backroom staff. Edited to add; The "temporary" suspension will be reviewed on the 31st of January. Would imagine that this will be extended at that point.
  9. 2 players back in training this week according to the manager's update, but he's not divulging who they are. Would imagine that one of them will be Rhys Breen who had been quoted as being close to a return. Hopefully Spittal is one of them, could do with more attacking options.
  10. Just came on here to post this. How many great positions has he gotten into and then fluffs the cross. Frustrating.
  11. After reading the manager's preview, there will be no players back from injury this week so it will be as was. Should be a good enough team to see off Dumbarton.
  12. Hopefully we can keep our wee run of good form going and get another 3 points. Would be good to have a really good performance for 90 mins to go along with the result but would settle for the 3 points! Not heard any news of any potential players returning from injury but I would be going with the same 11 as the last 2 games anyway, but would be good to have options on the bench. Cove Rangers and Falkirk both have home games you'd expect them to win so not much prospect of them dropping points this weekend.
  13. Yeah, they look to have had a lot of high scoring games to hopefully we can take advantage of their poor defence whilst keeping things tight at our end. Also worth noting that they have played 4 of their 5 games so far against the bottom 4 in the league and conceded a lot of goals in doing so, we really should be winning this one. Hopefully the improved performance last weekend, first half especially, is the signs of the team starting to gel together.
  14. Hopefully we can get another win here and build on the 3 points last week. Not sure if we will have any players back from injury, but I would imagine that we will go with the same 11 as last week regardless. Looking at Montrose they have the same record as us in the league so far, in terms of wins/losses/draws but they have scored nearly double the goals we have whilst also conceding over double the goals that we have. Will be interesting to see what gives on saturday in terms of attack and defence.
  15. This game already falls into the "must win" category if we have any hope of finishing nearer the top of the table. This is the first in a run of games that we really should be winning, so hopefully we can get the points and start to build a bit of momentum. Not sure where we are with injuries and which players are back and available for selection.
  16. Its not even that they're completely off the mark, they just seem to be either just in front or behind who he's passing to so they're always having to check their run or are stretching
  17. Docherty's passing today has been woeful. Too many passes missing their mark
  18. That's an unreal amount of people paying to stream the game. Hopefully that keeps up throughout the season. I suppose that there will be a fair amount of people that will be paying for it because there's not much else to be doing, and you can do it in the comfort of your own home and have a beer or two while watching the game. Add in the fact that people will probably just be desperate to watch their own team play as it's been so long you can understand the attraction.
