  1. Yes please - if you still have a space
  2. It's like watching a dog bark at a bus.
  3. I don't expect a ticket, I live near Oxford, work in Kenya and get to one game a season usually. But I've been going to Jags games since 1978 and have never seen us win anything (apart from the Glasgow Cup in 1989). So I really would like one. Or else it's taking a pot shot at which weekend might see the promotion decider.
  4. There's no harm in singing it. Bit like when Clyde sing "Hullo, hullo we are the Bully Wee" or indeed Oxford United (my hometown team) sing "Hello, hello, we are the Oxford boys ... Swindon blood... surrender or you'll die, we all follow United" Don't join in as I know the history but don't begrudge those who do.
  5. Not quite - I think the UVF were a Protestant Militia raised to fight home rule, afterwards they became a battalion in WW1 - seemingly a higher cause but also to prove their loyalty. The current UVF is a different organisation. I thought 'Follow, Follow' was just taken straight from a hymn "we will follow Jesus" is that what you meant?
  6. Er, we stole it from them. The song was originally "we are the volunteers of the UVF and we're coming down the road" Referring to the militia group opposed Irish Home Rule in 1912. Later adapted by the Partick Protestant Boys flute band as "when you hear the noise of the Partick Proddy Boys" Then later stolen by some some Thistle fans around 1992. Makes me think twice about singing it. Never understood why some Celtic fans thought we were singing a UVF song until I discovered the history. Mind you all 'folk' songs and traditions borrow from each other. For instance the French Christmas Carol "Etoile des Neiges" became the common football song "For ever and ever" And some proof http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpjEjwWAYQc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIuTqM7-N_s Both quoted for historical purposes not for endorsement!
  7. I don't think it is that simple. I think there is (1) a hard core of regulars - season ticket holders and people who will go to 80% of games. Then you have (2) the people who might go from 5/6 games a season to once a month. Then you have (3) the once/twice a season give it a go and get pissed off. So for a big game you get all of (1) and (2) and some of (3). That might seem obvious but the point is that getting increased attendances means getting the (2) to go more often which is why the 3/5/7/9 game packages are very useful as well as getting more of the (3)s to become (2)s. The (3)s aren't going to be persuaded by a 9-game package, although the 3 or 5 game packages might work. They will be persuaded by good home performances.
  8. Quote from Brighton-supporting friend "Hope your first choice keeper doesn't get injured" My prediction Accies 5 Thistle 3. Scully then takes the gloves.
  9. I think we have short memories, the quality and range of stuff from Greaves was better than anything we had before and being able to buy it in the city centre was fantastic. Anyway I have taken advantage of their clearance sale and ordered A teddy bear, a beer glass, a centenary mug, a black scarf, a bottle opener and three pin badges. The red/white/black leisure wear is okay but I don't really wear that stuff. But if I did I would buy it up
  10. Taking my two boys Jacob near Oxford and Max near Oxford to their first Thistle game on Saturday. Don't let them down! Jacob has been wearing his Thistle strip to football training in Witney for the last two years amidst all the Chelsea, Man U and Barcelona strips. He deserves to see a win!
  11. That Burley article as a shocker. He really doesn't know what he is talking about. Do you remember our game at Annan Athletic last season? I was really impressed to find a club that puts out 20 football teams each week - boys, girls, youths, seniors. Connected into local schools and the town and really well run. It is what a proper football CLUB should be. They were doing this when they were in the South of Scotland League and are an absolute credit to the game.
  12. I promise to join the centenary fund if we vote no to newco.
  13. If you throw away sporting integrity you will kill the club. Our place will be simply a bunch a patsies to be gone over regularly to keep the fans of the Old Firm happy with regular 3-0 and 5-0 thrashings. We might as well be playing against the Harlem Globetrotters. We'd like to pretend that one day we'll get promoted, qualify for Europe and win the league -just the once you know. But no, our place is to be the Christians in the Colosseum of the Old Firm. I don't understand why helping our biggest competitor to regain a dominant position is in our interest long term interest. In the long term it would be very much in our interest to break-up the Old Firm rather offering business as usual as soon as possible. So not only is this proposal just burning up the rule book, it is not even clearly in our short-term financial interest. We also have to look at how these rules got in place in the first place. By the old firm duopoly threatening everyone else from a position of strength!!! For how many years would these new rules last before we were threatened or bribed into changing back to 11-1 voting structures, 1-up/1-down with no play-offs, etc. The new proposal offers a few short term gifts in order to restore the power to the 2 powerful clubs. Why else do you think we are being offered it? It is certainly not in a spirit of contrition. So, nothing, repeat nothing, will justify giving Rangers a privileged position.
  14. Translation service "For the first time in 31 years of watching and supporting Dundee FC" = "I am 31" "after leaving this email for the best part of a day" = "I was pissed" "to calm down" = "I now have a hangover" "I find it necessary to write to you to make known my feelings" = "I am a busybody with no life" "I would like him to explain as to why I and the rest of the stand I was in, at the opposite end of the ground to the incident, CLEARLY saw their was NO contact" = "We were much further away than the referee" "whilst being ushered by dundee defender Matt Lockwood" = "whilst being elbowed by dundee defender Matt Lockwood" "who was running alongside him" = "who was running over him" "Not only did this blatant cheating, result in a penalty which in the end won Partick Thistle all 3 points, but also saw Dundee Goalkeeper Robert Douglas sent off and now I assume, banned for the next league game, even though he had made absolutely no contact at all, forcing Dundee FC to play the final three quarters of the match, a man down." = "The wrong man got sent off because another of our players cheated blatantly" "Mr Maclean later decided to book Dundee winger Nicky Riley for showing utter frustration" = "Riley is a mouthy wee git" "in a way I can only describe as common assault" = "I drive through Dundee with my eyes closed" "as a paying football fan who had seen, yet again, a match being completely ruined by a referee who's inconsistent and incorrect KEY decisions, left me feeling completely cheated." = "he sent off the wrong guy, our guy didn't admit it and who can blame him" "an ever decreasing phenomenon and we wonder why" = "we're bottom of the league" "I look forward to your and Mr Maclean's prompt response" = "please blacklist me from any Scotland tickets"
