  1. Pick ups: Milngavie Station 18:15 Esquire House 18:35 Maryhill Community Halls 18:50 Non-Members fares: Concessions – £6.50 (School aged children, unwaged adults, senior citizens & matriculated students) Full fare – £11 To reserve seats, please e-mail [email protected] If you intend to travel regularly and are not already a member, why not join the North-West? The benefits of membership are: 1. Your seat is guaranteed for every League, Betfred Cup, Challenge Cup (I’m reluctant to give it its’ latest name) and Scottish Cup match Thistle will play in Scotland (and Berwick) in season 2019-20 – apart from any played in Glasgow. So, no need to e-mail or phone every time 2. Your membership can be paid in one lump sum or spread throughout the season in amounts to suit your budget 3. You could make a significant saving over the cost of travelling as a non-member. After three years of holding membership prices, this year the North-West’s concession fare has again been held at £150 and the full fare actually reduced by £20 to £250 to bring about a fairer balance between the rates. If, however, you are likely to be a less frequent traveller, we still look forward to having you aboard for a season which, hopefully, will see the excitement generated at the upper end of the table rather than in the cellar!
  2. Thanks, I'll check it later. I worked out the date on the basis of the players identified, but I may be wrong.
  3. "On a darker note: I remember a young Thistle supporter who got murdered by a gang in the early 70s.... one of the supporters early on in the video reminded me of him. " The supporter to whom you referred was Chris Eaglesham. He and I travelled to Preston together and Chris appears wearing the black donkey jacket and with long hair. On 03 September 1971, the night before we beat Rangers in the opening League match of the season at Firhill, he and I took the eighteen bus from the meeting of the North-West Branch which we'd been attending in the flat we (the Branch) rented in the close beside Munn's. We both got off at the Boundary Bar in Springburn. Agreeing to meet in the Firhill Club for a pre-match pint the next day, he headed for his home in Barmulloch and I to mine in Bishopbriggs, Chris, an easy going and gregarious guy struck up a conversation with a man on the bus and they continued to talk at the bus stop until they encountered a group of youths who had been thwarted in their search for a rival gang. In an entirely unprovoked attack, they set upon the two men, killing Chris and severely injuring his companion. The next day, instead of savouring our win, I sat in his house as his devastated family tried to come to terms with what had happened. That night ended Chris’ life, destroyed the youth and early adulthood of the six who were convicted of the senseless crime and radically redirected my future attitudes and career. Seven weeks later, we stood at Hampden with the only blight on an otherwise perfect day being the fact that someone who should have been there, wasn’t! In truly bizarre circumstances, almost a quarter of a century later, I found myself in a room with one of those convicted in connection with Chris’ murder. In what was undoubtedly the most difficult experience of my professional life, I could neither do nor say anything, but the gin bottle took one hell of a battering that night! Sorry, that’s more information than you needed or were looking for, but – even after all these years - it was something of a catharsis for me!
  4. As in the holiday advert, I shouldn’t really be here and nor should this posting, but what the Hell… Most people who know me are aware of my earlier allegiance, but hopefully few would question my commitment to The Jags for over fifty years. Amidst the footage of the Jags in Sweden and early 70's domestic games, I found the short clip I took on a visit my Father and I made to Cathkin. It was less than five years after the Club died and a painful sight to see. Younger Jags fans might be surprised at the size of the ground, older ones at the very familiar shape of the Cathkin Shed! Anyway, it might be of interest to some who like meandering through the history of the game. If so, click here to view - it only lasts a couple of minutes. CCJag
  5. Some more stuff recovered and digitised from the 8 mm silent movies I took in the early 70s can be viewed here It carries the usual caveat about quality (or lack thereof) but shows clips from: · A pre-season friendly @ Preston North-End (and the player I omitted to list, coming off between Ronnie Glavin and Denis McQuade, was Bobby Gray the Younger) · The raising of the Second Division Championship flag (and this is seriously lousy footage) · Matches at Rugby Park, Fir Park, Somerset Park, Tynecastle & Muirton Park. Anyone interested enough to share, please go ahead and do so, and if anyone has an update/correction of any info I’ve included, please get in touch and I’ll re-edit. CCJag
  6. Wouldn't it be an astonishing coincidence if one of the Gruesome Twosome happened to be playing a "Glamour Friendly" in Glasgow on that day!" A cynic is what an idealist calls a realist!
  7. So my Aberdeen memory must have been a senior moment!
  8. Sorry to learn of the death of Stevie Chalmers. Stevie, who I believe also played for another Glasgow team, featured for Thistle towards the end of his career but I seem to recollect (over to you for correction Mr Reid) him scoring a winner for us at Pittodrie. Condolences to his family, accompanied by an increasing sense of my own mortality!

  10. Jags fans of a certain vintage will remember when the back page of the club programme always featured a McCormick cartoon, often in praise (albeit of the faint variety) of the Jags and lampooning the gruesome twosome. I still have this one which followed a(nother) less than dynamic start to one season…..

  12. Thanks for positive feedback. Rest assured, it was a labour of love. More to follow, as soon as I can find the time. Friendly v Preston North End 1971 Matches at Muirton Park, Tynecastle, Somerset Park etc.
  13. Two hip replacements over the autumn/winter I believe A bit daunting for anyone of Robert's vintage. He is, I gather, stuck at home going stir crazy - especially on Saturdays - but, hopefully, will return to the fold after a late fitness test.
  14. I agree re the archive Sandy, and preferably one that is accessible and not just locked away somewhere in the bowels of Firhill. Robert, however, has a much more important project to concentrate on just now as he seeks to recover from two major operations!
  15. Updated intro to reflect new information from QXBoy. The ? after Dolomite is due to the Net suggesting that it didn't come into production until October 1972, so maybe it was a Triumph Herald........even less space!! The Director's Cut (inclusive of corrections) will be uploaded today.
  16. I thought twelve was the total, I knew not everyone went by air but couldn't remember the split. Apologies if that impression was given. Were you in the camper van shown in the film, or was it literally a car? I remember that we were also joined by a few exiled Scots.
  17. Jim Mullen was indeed there. As were, Donnie McDowell, Nobby Clark, Tommy (later Strathclyde Regional Councillor) Rae, Charlie Smith (of Falkirk High School fame - if that doesn't make any sense to you, ask a Jags fan in his/her 60's) and Alfie Stamp - a winger of such bizarre eccentricity that he made Denis McQuade look boringly predictable! And others too numerous to mention.
  18. Of course! Anyone interested can share and/or download.
  19. Some hardy/lucky supporters followed the Jags on a pre-season tour of Sweden in July 1972. This is a link to a digitised copy of the 8 mm silent film which I took - and then lost in the late seventies. It re-emerged earlier this year and the acetate film had suffered from both age and far from ideal storage conditions, but I've recovered it to the best of my limited cinematographic abilities. It is, however, a memento of what was then a big adventure for those of us who travelled (for that reason you need to suffer some touristy bits), but there are lots of shots of famous Jags, on and off the pitch and I hope it might be of some interest to fellow Jags! (NB The film is silent but an "appropriate" soundtrack has been added so make sure you have the volume up! I should also add that my camera had a curious fault, it only recorded when Thistle were attacking!)
