  1. I'm reading the online edition and can't see where it says the deal for McCann is "short term". Boyle was a strange one. For a winger I never saw him once beat a player flankside but to be fair he was playing thru the middle as often as not. I'm not sure he'll just be assessed on his two friendly outings. The pitches at both Blyth & Dumbarton were poor and certainly not very easy to assess the guy. He looked more of a wide attacking midfielder who preferred to cut inside and not the out and out winger that was supposed to give us "options".
  2. And a split gate at that. That's why the Club will probably be happy to draw Hamilton away rather than at home. Without wanting to sound like Tom Hughes I'm guessing that any right thinking Div 1 club's objective in regard to the Challenge Cup is to get out of it losing the least amount of money.
  3. We can easily rejoice in an ugly sister defeat and not feel Scottish football will suffer. If the European money the ugly sisters received was to filter down the divisions (thru the transfer market) then there could be an argument that early departures in Europe wasn't to be welcomed. Even then, as Tom Stronach points out, the rich just get richer and the gap just gets wider. I'm not very clued up on all this co-efficient stuff but it looks to me that one "benefit" from a high rating is the number of clubs that can enter European football can increase. But it also appears the better the coefficient rating the better the seeding for the ugly sisters and thus entering the Euro Cup at a later stage the financial gap widens even further and they bring in even more foreign players to the detriment of the international side.
  4. But the minute one of the ugly sisters starts to make real cash out of the Champions League they start bringing in foreign players and before you know it there's hardly a Scot getting a game for them in Europe.
  5. Does it have a link to sigesige00?
  6. A lot of us have said we need to get in the faces of folk with the under 16 initiative almost on a continual basis. But there's a big difference between publicising and advertising. There's just no way given our frail cash flow that we can justify the cost of advertising especially when there's no obvious direct return on something as much of a slow burner as under 16s go free . What the Club need to do is to continually bring the subject up in interviews, have an under 16s go free poster/banner as a back drop to any press conference/launch etc. The equivalent to product placement if you like.
  7. Looking good but grass was long and held the ball up. Hopefully it'll be trimmed for start of the league games.
  8. Annan Athletic v Peterhead not exactly a local derby
  9. I think it should be scrapped for 1st Div sides and introduce more non senior league teams in place. It could be used as a sounding board for when some sort of pyramid system to end the SFL closed shop comes into play. How can we complain about only one promotion spot out of the SFL when that useless organisation that tolerates the likes of the Challenge Cup doesn't allow for any promotion places?
  10. Can imagine a good few season tickets being sold by the end of the week given it's also the end of the month. I'm supposing the strip launch isn't before that.
  11. Don't usually go along with much Tam Cowan says but I found myself in total agreement with his slagging of Craig Burley. Evidently the semi-literate Mr Burley was co-commenting on an SPL match involving Hamilton. Despite the game being televised, kicking off at some ridiculous hour, possibly the fourth time the two teams had played that season, Burley still managed to turn his attention to the Hamilton support and decry them for turning up in such poor numbers.
  12. If it's the poster I'm thinking of it could well be Cloud Cuckoo Land
  13. Defies belief. One week we're congratulating ourselves on getting some money in our coffers thru a friendly. A few weeks later we could be losing a substantial amount on a trip to Elgin or Peterhead.
  14. This inane competition usually end up costing us. If it's midweek best for club finances an away tie to someplace nearby and let them pay the expenses. To be honest I don't even know if the next round is regionalised or not. Obviously don't want another Div 1 side so that kinda leave me wanting Stirling away.
  15. Stewart's finish yesterday was, to use the jargon, clinical. It's just the very type of goal that we've been far too inclined to miss. If that's Stewart playing badly and still scoring I can live with it. I don't think he had a very good game yesterday by any means but I'm confident that the Doolan/Stewart partnership will be effective.
  16. Double exposure. Great photos as ever, Tommy. Very much appreciated
  17. Pitch playing a bit slow also.
  18. Some result. 3rd division side beating a 1st division team away from home. With one of their players severely constipated makes the result all the more remarkable.
  19. Bathgate is the largest town in Scotland without a Pets at Home. Since the Glenhead Inn shut Coalsnaughton is the largest village in Scotland without a public house. No resident of Pittenweem has ever been convicted of arson.
  20. Fairly sure we can't play trialists. Despite it being the Challenge Cup I think we'll go with a strong starting eleven with maybe some of the least experienced lads on the bench. Paton looked like he needed the run out last Saturday, so I'd expect Campbell to be in the squad and maybe even start. Might be worth starting with Grehan if only to give him yet another chance to impress. One player we'll need to give as much 1st team experience to as possible will be Lindsay. I don't feel it would be wise to put that off as we've little cover on the left defensive side and he could easily be called upon to play for for lengthy periods throughout the season.
  21. I believe they're just going thru the motions with this. Heard weeks ago that a certain ex-chairman was a shoe-in for the job.
