  1.

Thanks to my Dad for giving me the heads up, I just learned of the terrible news of Susan losing her 18 month battle with cancer.

Susan was a regular on most of the Thistle forums and back in the day I was fortunate enough to share many a discussion on Thistle tops of yore, with Susan. She was a passionate collector 9f match worm tops and her collection was second to none. I was lucky enough for her to share many pictures of some of the match worn tops she came by. It would leave you speechless!

Susan was what you might describe as a Cult Hero among many of Thistle support. I for one will miss her, very much!

Eh?? You never watched these games did you? Is a performance with 100%  possession only acceptable to you?

Falkirk pressed in the second half but we deserved that 3 points. Same as at Morton. As we know they were very lucky not to have went 2-0 down.

You are just on here to stir stuff regarding Archie.

Next two games are huge regarding his future. The board has done a great job in the last few years and I trust them to make the right decision here.

    Spot on.

They pounded us the second half, we played well 1st half then stopped.

The bottom line is folk have stopped going as the entertainment and performances are poor and have been for nearly 18 months with the exception of 1 or 2 blips where we’ve played decent for the majority of a game

We were the better team for the first 30 of the second half. Falkirk only came into it in the last 15. As much as it pains you. We won 2.1

They won’t get their prize money till the end of the season as they don’t know what position they will have finished in but it will determine what their budget will be for the following year ?

In this simplistic form of budgeting, If Roy MacGregor puts 250k into the transfer kitty, Ross County have a bigger budget than us and a bigger advantage than us.

Only for parts then held on for the rest by skin of our teeth.

If we don’t attack we don’t score so we don’t win. Played 7 only won 3 with a negative goal difference says it all

I don't remember us hanging on by the skin of our teeth against Falkirk at all. They scored their one goal in injury time.

Only as long as you continue being so blinkered and sanctimonious. You are very good at putting out vague facts and figures then criticising and denouncing others for doing the same but which don't suit your take on the situation the club finds itself in.

    Fantastic.

    OK, fair comment.

I think jlsarmy concern was that any financial advantage we have, through last seasons prize money and parachute payment is being squandered. This may or may not be the case.

Nevertheless, it is a fact that Thistle have a temporary  financial advantage that most other Championship teams do not enjoy.

But what is the real advantage.

Manager A has £1.5m to sign 15 players in 1 month.

Manager B has 300k to sign 3 players in 1 month.

Some would say Manager B is in the strongest position.

  8. Look I get it. Folk are angry, but swinging arms about wildly hoping a punch lands on something, looks ridiculous.

Christ, the other day we were getting fed some pish about a training ground bust up because Archie wanted to drop players/change formation ahead of the Pars game.

  9. 8 minutes ago, jlsarmy said:

We should be able to get a better quality player due to the financial clout we have at this moment.

The rest of your post is absolute nonsense, just check for yourself this years released players list and signings , it just shows how bad our recruitment in getting players signed actually is.

But you keep looking at two payments and assuming that they are high, we therefore have the most clout. Ignoring the fact County have a sugar daddy supplementing the playing budget, for example. You can't make a statement based on considering only, a bit of the picture.

  10. 1 minute ago, AndyMac said:

jlsarmy is stating that he believes Thistle have a financial advantage over other Championship teams, due to last seasons prize money and parachute payments.

    Do you get it now?

And I'm saying that with every possibility that's nonsense as thats not all that defines the budget. You get that?

I'm also saying that existing championship teams had an advantage as they were turning over less players so could focus their search on only 3 or 4 players. You still up to speed?

  11. 4 minutes ago, jlsarmy said:

The only club with their fan base who might have a much bigger audience in terms of sponsorship etc are Dundee Utd but as it’s widely reported they are haemorrhaging money .

The players who didn’t have relegation clauses like Storey , Keown have agreed revised terms , the rest have been moved on.

We moved on 16 players from last year , if we had gone with the premise of adding even 10 quality players and a slightly smaller squad , I think most of the fans would have been happy with that , instead we’ve became an agents dream getting average players to sign for us.

We had an advantage financially over the majority of clubs in our division and this year especially was our big chance to make that count.

For a variety of reasons we’ve blown it

Nothing you've said there remotely answers my question or backs up what you're saying. You've provided no more figures, just hearsay.

What advantage do we have, if we need to bring in 10 players, over a Championship team who may be only needs to bring in three or four?

Why does having a high turnover of players put us at an advantage?

  12. I'm loving this latest stick to beat the club with.

What sort of advantage could we have?

Surely the established Championship teams had the biggest advantage as they were already Championship Teams, with Championship Squads, just needing a wee tinker here n there. 3 or 4 players.

I'd have said that we would be at a disadvantage, newly relegated, huge turnover of staff. If clearing out your squad gives you the greatest advantage, why doesn't Every one do it every year?

  13. 10 minutes ago, jlsarmy said:

No bother , last year we got “ prize money “ of  1.1 million for finishing 11 th , we got a parachute payment of £500,000 , think County got £250, 000

If we don’t go up straight away we’ll get another parachute payment of £250,000 , surely if we did this properly and recruited properly we really would be favourites to go straight back up , in terms of finance at this moment with the parachute payments and the prize money from last year we are easily the most affluent.

If that's all you take into consideration, Yes we are... but I think other clubs have different income streams, different expenditures. It's a wee bit more complex than writing down some of the numbers on a forum.

What was County's prize money? How much has their Chairman put into the pot? How big a relegation clause drop in wage, did they have compared to us?

  14. 2 minutes ago, jlsarmy said:

Easily pleased , if you’re happy with the performances against Dunfermline, Inverness , Ayr United , Dundee Utd and even the mighty East Fife or maybe you were concentrating on just the league results ? Having the parachute payments after relegation should have given us an advantage in terms of recruitment to get back to the Premier League.

There is no chance of that this season so who is culpable for what we’re seeing on the park , Archie , Jaqui Lowe , Gerry Britton ?

Should it have given us an advantage? How much of an advantage would it give us over the likes of County and United who have far greater budgets. Just give me a ball park. A huge advantage, a small advantage? Help me out trying to drill down on your baseless nonsense.

So by what you say home form ie winning games is keeping him in a job so by that reckoning Away form ie continuing to lose games has no bearing........ well balanced thought process there.

We have lost more than we have won and funnily enough all away from home and once again our goal difference is minus  something has to change as this is not the premier league where all roads for us lead to survival all roads for us need to lead to promotion contenders as said by the board unfortunately no where near that on our performances

Of course away form has a bearing. But equally so does home form. Home form which is being ignored by those who want him sacked. Thanks though for completely assuming my thought process.

On our home performances we are promotion contenders, our away form is letting us down terribly. He obviously realises that. Realises how bad we are and took a huge step of playing for a clean sheet at all costs 0.0 draw on Friday. A bloody ridiculous error on the park cost us that. I'm disappointed he chose to be that defensive and for so long. But. The next 4 games give us a real opportunity to turn the corner. Realistically, there is no reason why we shouldn't be 4 unbeaten after them.

  16. 17 minutes ago, jlsarmy said:

Keep up PT , Archie’s last 50 league games have amassed an incredible 43 points , that is 43 points from a possible 150 and you’re defending that ?

Your declaration that the board of directors are professional is actually quite the opposite as they are burying their collective heads in the sand and not making informed decisions on what is going on round about them , whether that’s dwindling crowds, results on the park or the disengagement of a large selection of their supporters at their continued faith and loyalty to the manager regardless of what product he serves up on the park.

Nope not defending it at all. I've wiped the slate clean and I'm treating this season like, well, a new season.

The rest of your post is just nonsense.

How few points would the team have to get from the next 4 games before you think it’s reasonable for fans to call for a change in management? You’ve said we should be targeting 8-10 points, so just how shitty must the desk fan be below that?

You actually didn't read my post did you?

  18. 3 minutes ago, jaggot said:

Potty.....your defending of our  current performances is as bad as our current defending

Four more games and unless performances are excellent......Archie should be booted

I thought this was a results business. I can't keep up with you guys!

  19. 20 minutes ago, MonehJags said:

That is a good point someone made regarding fixtures when we were in the premier. People were actually just writing off 12-15 games per season when we played the top 4/5.

'Aye but weve had a difficult run of fixtures, it must be the SFA who want us relegated'

Its that ilk that want Archie to drain our soul. I mean, what more do you need to see? Theres always some shite excuse and im fed up with it.

And you say were not real supporters for not backing the manager? This ignorance will see us stagnate for years as the money disappears.

    Enough is enough.

Who is it you're talking to?

Unlike the previous 4 games which we will ignore and hey ho by the 27th Oct everything will be fine maybe.....possibly or do the emu sorry board thing   Lucky for Archie he has 3 games at home and the mighty Alloa away.

So what out of the next 4 games do you deem as acceptable in relation to results ???    Or are you going to post on a game by game basis

my thoughts on the next 4 games

    Ross County Draw/win

    Dundee Utd Win

    Alloa Win

    Ayr Draw/Win

anything less than these results then he should go

In fairness our last 4 league games have seen us win two. Hey Ho though, lets ignore that. As folk strangely say, its his home form keeping him in a job. Or more accurately, bloody winning games is keeping him in a job.

Regards the next 4. the toughest comes first, I'd accept a draw at least.

    Dundee United Win.

    Alloa Win.

    Ayr Win.

Realistically we should be getting 10 points from this run. If we don't, then I'd be looking at the circumstances around that. 8 points bare minimum to stay in the job. But yes, I will look at it on a game by game basis.

It’s not “unprofessional” to communicate with your fans properly, to acknowledge the validity of their significant concerns and to develop and effectively communicate a plan of action to respond to those concerns.

Nor, for that matter, is it unprofessional to expect a manager with a seven figure budget in this division to assemble a squad with more than half a player who can play at right back, and to be swift and decisive at removing someone from a post who isn’t doing their job acceptably well.

Alan Archibald has not been doing his job acceptably well for 18 months. This fact is putting our side at risk of relegation to the third tier when a club like ours by resource, recent history and infrastructure should be comfortably top 3 in this league.

If the Club is to be professional, our manager should at least be “on notice” now (he might well be but I suspect he’s not). Professional outfits don’t treat defective employment relationships as charity cases.

Sorry, I keep reading the stuff in bold and pish myself laughing

i can not comprehend why those who presently run our club appear so unconcerned at our present plight. someone, somewhere at firhill must be aware of the feelings of the majority of long-suffering fans. their attitude towards us, therefore,  is one of contempt. the performances over the past 18 months have been unacceptable.  if the directors do not acknowledge that fact, then we truly are doomed...

You can't comprehend why the people in charge at Firhill are conducting themselves in a professional manner?

And acting professionally shows contempt to the fans?

The directors have acknowledged that last season was shite, im pretty sure they did that during the pre season.

How do you think they should be behaving?

  23. 8 minutes ago, Jaggernaut said:

It won't take much to reduce that to even fewer; currently it looks like it will be harder - much harder - to make us more of those things away from home.

The next 4 games will define our season.
