  1. There is a lot of "surely if.....", "I heard that.....", "anyone can see that....." We'll find out an awful lot more on Monday. Some opinions: A number of players who were out of contract last season (Shea Gordon, Joe Cardle, Lewis Mansell come to mind), signed again. Most fans seemed to be very happy with these signings. These re-signings suggests to me there is not an inherent dressing room issue with Caldwell. Bannigan himself signed in Dec 2018 after his first prolonged period of playing after numerous injuries. The last time a player scored and ran to the dugout to hug not the manager, but another player, it was Ryan Edwards to Abdul Osman. This time it was Banzo to O'Ware. Both situations suggest to me a closeness between two individual players. That may mean a lack of closeness with the manager, but not necessarily. Caldwell is his own man. All the best managers are. Doesn't mean every manager who is his own man is also a good manager. On Banzo and Tam, I'd be very disappointed if they left as I think it would have a negative short term effect. O'Ware is currently 4th choice (whether or not we agree with it, that seems to be Caldwell's choice). I'd still have Banzo 1st choice, but not in the position he's playing. I've posted elsewhere, centre-mid is our biggest problem - has been since we finished top six. Banzo is unfortunately part of that problem, but I'd like to see him not as the main sitter. In my view, he doesn't quite have the knack of being in the way that an Osman, or Bauben or Osborne had. In my view, Banzo isn't a "10" either, but he was a very good "third" centre-mid, linking, and driving forward. We've not really seen enough of Tam to know if he's as good as we all hoped. I thought against Alloa, he wasn't the worst of the three, but that was a poor performance all round. Whatever happens this week, we need wins. Three losses after having been in front in each match is not good. PS We're actually 1 point ahead of where we were last year - we lost all 4 corresponding fixtures!
  2. Agree. Some nice touches. Seems to have pace, and not easily brushed off the ball. Could be worth starting him and Miller. The Alex Jones song started by the youngsters was fun!
  3. Just watched highlights, according to the commentator, formation was supposed to be 3-1-4-1-1. Penrice in front of back 3, and and Cardle behind Mansell. GC was constantly shouting pressing instructions when Alloa had the ball, which makes me think the players weren’t sure what they should be doing. Gordon (in particular who spent most tome on the right), Banzo and Penrice often got pulled out of position, which meant a centre half had to cover for the hole, and Alloa waltzed through our middle. This has basically happened since the opening game against Hibs a couple of seasons back. I think our centre-mid is our main problem. We have not had a natural Paton/Osbourne/Bauben/Osman, and no one with the passing range of Welsh/Barton. Slater might make a difference when he comes back, allowing Banzo to sit more, and Slater does more of the distribution. But I’m not convinced. Im usually pretty positive, and in fact we could have won it. But much improvement needed.
  4. Two draws tonight are good results for us. Genuinely, I think we can win all six remaining games. Of course, realistically that won’t happen. But I’d say others have more to fear from us than we have from them.
  5. Top scorers in last 10. Five of our six remaining matches against teams lower than us in that form league.
  6. Thanks - knew my memory was fuzzy!
  7. Trying to remember our last Championship winning squad, specifically with regards to depth of squad. Forgive for my omissions, but I’m too lazy to look up a match programme! Fox, Scully O’Donnell, Muirhead, Balatoni, Taylor-Sinclair, Lidsay(?) Paton, Bannigan, Welsh, Murray Erskine, Lawless, Craigen, Forbes Doolan, Craig I must be missing some out, but my point is that’s a squad of 17 or so.
  8. In the Jag zone match highlights from Saturday, Michael said Bannigan had “a knock”.
  9. Yep. Weirdly was rubbing behind his knee before taking a goal kick. Took the kick anyway, then collapsed. Soldiered on, but didn’t appear for second half. Archie said before the game that Cammy Bell should be ok for Tuesday.
  10. According to the Dundee United, they have signed a tough defensive midfielder....... Mostly supported Barton - thought he got a lot of undeserved grief, but when we needed leaders he was found wanting.
  11. Slightly worried about his non-appearance. Hopefully fit. Hopefully staying.
  12. Bit of a ramble below... Great start to the game. Storer looking to get on the ball and pinging a lot of passes. Fell out the game second half as Stenny presses us more, though always looked for the ball. Should be good for us this year. Shea Gordon took his goals really well, and usually busy. Thought we looked pretty decent early and a couple of half chances could have added to the score. Slater looked ok on the Ball. Erskine some nice touches. Dools a bit off the pace I thought and off-side too often in the second half. O’Ware looks a player, McGinty defended well, but too often went for the long hit and hope ball from defence. I don’t mean clearances, I mean “passes”. Elliott a bit hesitant for me. Spittal hot and cold. Penrice should be solid for us. Storey. Jeez. I was really pleased when he signed last year, but I think the boy has no confidence. Should be ripping it up at this level, and looked like he didn’t know how to make a difference. Stuck to left touchline when he came on, when I think he could have played more central and in the box when the ball was down the right. I can’t see anyone taking him on this form. Snedson did well, but kick outs need work. Ain’t a giant. All in all a decent start, but we’ll meet tougher opponents.
  13. So, in the three games of the final pre-split cycle, comparing against the first cycle, which we are now repeating, we are as follows: St J: 1st cycle L; 3rd cycle W Motherwell: L D Rangers: D L So by my reckoning, we’re 3 points ahead of the standard we set earlier in the season.
