  1. Interesting that Rovers and Wanderers caught on as football club names, but Ramblers didn't.... nor Paperstainers.
  2. Okay at risk of opening divisions... Please don't let it, I just think it's an interesting question, so here goes... I think everyone is now in agreement that Kris Doolan is doing a great job and bringing him in as manager has worked out really well, and clearly improved the team. I personally thought that sacking McCall was a bit harsh, but I had mixed feelings. While I think he did a decent job in stabilising and improving thistle in both his spells, I never really felt thst he was going to get us into the Premier league. Far too inconsistent. My other thought at the time was that, while I love Kris Doolan, he was either a risky appointment given lack of experience, or the desperate move of a club that had no other options. Or both. So my question is this... Did the club just get lucky, in that the guy we turned to has happened to be a great manager (at least so far)? Or did someone at the club see something in Kris Doolan to indicate that this would work out well, that he had real potential, and that it was therefore a smart and positive move?
  3. On thing all the pundits agreed on before the Ayr United tie... "Thistle will definitely find it tougher than Queens Park".
  4. Doolan speaks differently from just about any other managers I've heard. He's not afraid to say that his team are really good, to pick out the attributes of his players, to challenge other teams by saying, this is a statement and we'll get better. He might fall on his face, but it's working so far. And to be honest, it's brave of him, but I can see how it would work well with the players.
  5. Get out your cars. Better ways of getting about.
  6. Cocaine has to be the ultimate in abuse of privilege. ***** Oh, it starred me out! Dix
  7. I love Doolan's attitude, and in his own recent circumstances its even more credit to him. Its quite unusual for a manager to speak so positively, to come right out and say, yes we can do this. I think he's great to listen to and I can understand why the players are responding well.
  8. 2013 team was my favourite Thistle team in 40 years of watching. If we could do it, exactly 10 years on, with Banzo, Aero and Stevie Lawless in the side, and Dools in charge.... Right, don't get carried away Alan, long way to go.
  9. I'm certainly not mocking Queens Park and I hope the people looking after them are a lot more responsible than those at Gretna, because they are custodians of a very special.club.
  10. It's a shame. Queen's Park is one of the most important clubs in the history of world football. But I suppose they are where they are, most of their fans died over 80 years ago, and it's very difficult to build a new fanbase.
  11. A defeat and our season was over. I'm not saying I'm not disappointed. But everything has to be earned. We're probably where we deserved to be. Crazy league though.
  12. Missed opportunity but one tie puts us where we'd have been with a win. Still in it. You can say what you like about managers. I probably wouldn't have sacked McCall, though i don't think he'd have taken us up. I always thought a play off was where we were heading. But regardless of that, one defeat in how many games is pretty good. I think we're in good hands.
  13. It's a tight call and it's a tricky job when the two players are going in different directions. Give me dodgy calls and frustrating injustices over VAR any day.
  14. You're all a bit reactionary. Two games ago Doolan was apparently a genius. Now the jury's out. Fact is he's a guy who has just taken on his very first management job, and will be learning as he goes. To be fair it just seems to be the way with football these days. And most other things too.
  15. It's all a bit moot but I don't think you secure a place in the play offs first and then push for the title. Surely you push for the title first and then fall back into the play offs if you don't quite make it. Half empty half full potato potahto.
  16. If we go into the last match within three points of the top then anything can happen. That's still absolutely realistic. So I wouldn't be conceding anything at this stage.
  17. Just a note that "green" doesn't rhyme with "king". Maybe time to let that song go. Or, replace "boys in emerald green" with "whole potato thing".
  18. What is this need to polarise? "Your lot"; really? And among Thistle fans. Sad
  19. I must admit I wasn't convinced by Kris Doolan's appointment, as much as I love the guy. I was worried about his lack of experience, and the feeling that he'd just been chosen as the easy option. Last night's performance and his interview after it has changed my mind. He has a plan, and he also has a very positive outlook which I can see being contagious through the team and the club. Brilliant stuff. I fancy us for second now, which I think could make all the difference.
  20. Yeah I agree actually. Either way it could be used better. There's no reason why a football ground end without a stand can't be an attractive and well used space.
  21. Er, isn't it covered by massive advertising boards?
  22. Genuinely I do think that there must be scope to massively improve the look of the area without any huge amount of cash. Could make a nice community project. Also... Fir Hill
