I think some of the concerns over our financial position and how its relates to our recruitment are a bit over stated. Whilst we overspent considerably last year that doesn't mean we are only able to have a squad of 14 players or that we fill the gaps with loans or kids.

We had to get it confirmed from Holt, Docherty and Turner that they were leaving because even with reduced offers had they accepted they would still be consuming a sizeable chunk of the budget. Likewise we had to get confirmation of which players were willing to extend their contracts to understand what gaps there are in the squad and what budget remains to fill it.

Now they have confirmed they are leaving that should release that budget to make offers to new players. The money offered to Holt, Docherty and Turner should be available to get at least 3 decent signings. We need about another 7 or 8 signings. We have 11 players who have left. That should mean we can reduce some cost but still make the signings we need.

One of the other side effects of the overspending was it meant we were recruiting earlier that other teams in our league. So last season McCall had signed the bulk of his squad before the likes of Dundee and Queens Park before the season started.

This season we can't do the same. We can't compete with Dundee United, Queens Park or Dunfermline and will be working in the same market as Raith, Ayr, Morton and ICT. We will need to wait until the clubs with the bigger budgets fill their squads before the players we are hoping to get will accept our terms which is normal, last season was not normal.

The time to judge recruitment and if the squad is good enough to compete for top 4 is going to be after we make our new signings as opposed to extending existing contracts. Doolan already has already got 8 or 9 of a very decent starting 11 signed up. If he manages to find 2 or 3 good ones and another 2 or 3 reasonable ones we will be in decent shape.

I want to hear from the board the expectations for next season, the silence is deafening. I am firmly behind Doolan but we all know the crowds we had at the playoffs will not come to watch a relegation struggle.

We'll so much for everyone getting behind Kris Doolan. Clearly some folk appear to be thinking he's lost the plot. Squandering his first player budget evidently?

Who said that, are we not allowed to question what is going on.

To echo Fawlty Towers, we have to tighten out belts and survive. 2 years to the youngsters would probably be pretty cheap. The 2 year contract to Bannigan is the only one I would disagree with. Regards Holt, if it true he is off to Arabs FC, then we probably couldn't match them at any time.

Thanks GRE but not buying it surely getting rid of 4 high earners would have been enough to keep Holt, in fact Brownlies wages to Holt would have been enough. We can’t go into a new season with this mindset. Time to hear from the board, stop asking people to buy season tickets until they know what they are buying into.

  4. Thanks FT but I can’t be the only one on here wondering what the hell is going on, the board is silent, all out best players are leaving, we’re giving 2 year contracts to players who don’t deserve it. I am a supporter of over 70 years, I’ve seen it all but I’ve never felt so worried as I feel now.

  5. If that’s the squad then McMillan and Milne should be telling their agents get me out of here. If we are so broke why are we running a woman’s team and an academy? Surely the money must be spent on the men’s team or let’s just call it a day. I have bought 2 season tickets because I really believed the money would be spent on the first team squad, all I’m reading on the official site is women signings.
Why do we need 3 goalkeepers ok Doolan says he has players lined up but how could we not have offered Holt a decent contract to stay. Are we so broke that 5 have left who I assume are our top earners could we not have kept at least one of them.

Home and hosed ,seeded and looking good….ish .

I think the seeded teams are the 5 entering now plus the 3 best group winners which will be Dundee, Arbroath and Aberdeen if they beat Raith Rovers tomorrow.

    JUST MY LUCKY DAY

Just phoned the Club to renew my season ticket!

On completing the transaction with the admin staff member, who was very nice, she said the manager was present and would like a word with me!

Ian McCall came on the line to thank me for renewing my ST and for my continued support.

I thought this was an excellent piece of PR and I really appreciated this.  In response to a question he said ST sales were going very well.

Has this happened to anyone else!

I got an email from him if that counts.

  8. Bill McAlpine, 72 saw my first game in 1952, taken to Firhill by my father and grandfather to see a reserve game. We lived in Cromwell Street then. Nearly 70 years of joy and pain but wouldn’t  change a moment of the journey.

    Re Fox.

I watched my 17yr old grandson recently playing in goal for a junior team. He normally plays at u19 level with an Academy Team. So a big jump for him from his normal and  I admit to being a bit worried due to age and physical development differences.

In the first 5 minutes he confidently, under pressure, took and held a high dangerous cross on his 6 yard line.  Immediately earning the respect of his defence ans spectators. He did this on 3 further occasions during the match.

Everytime he took a cross usually from well off his line I thought of how Fox doesn't or rarely does this.

Aberdeen and Rangers (heaven forbid) have both looked at him so I might send a letter to Firhill mamagement!

Email Scott Allison, I did this for my grandson and got a reply very quickly. He will ask you to give him some dates when your grandson will be playing so they can send someone along to watch.

Lost for a thread for this so sorry for butting in.

Is this the first season where we haven't had an open friendly? Any opinions on this? Myself, tho' I'm pro the league cup section set up, I feel the loss of having at least one pre season friendly is a sad state of affairs. In recent seasons, like many other fans, I've been to Blyth, Durham, Fleetwood, Belfast etc. Given as it is we visit maybe only around a paltry dozen different grounds a season this no friendly stuff stinks.

Agree LIB seems the league cup(or whatever its called) is the substitute for pre season games. I miss these good days away.

An ex employee told me that is nothing more than  JLow spin or a Nigerian Scam so I’ll not be providing my account details or renewing my season ticket.

    Good

That there have been unofficial contacts ... as you could say there has been no contact ... do you believe Jlow knows nothing ?

If she has heard unofficially then her statement is not a lie.

She probably only knows what she reads on this forum.

  14. What annoys me is I have bought 2 season tickets to watch Partick Thistle. I am not interested in us becoming a feeder club for any team. I would like to know how long these negotiations have been going on. Surely no season tickets should have been sold until supporters knew what they were buying into.
