  1. You are indeed correct, Blackpool Jags. The Pacifc Northwest, home of dark ales, pale women, rain, a couple of Nomads, and now, amazingly, a Super Bowl trophy.
  2. No one here expected that level of a thumping. It was also brilliant as a lifelong loather of the h*ns of the Rockies to watch Elway near tears as he watched the Broncos Manning the bed. The PNW is a shattered sports region with a long history of losing. This was needed.
  3. Randall Cunningham was born in the wrong era. There has been a glut of undeniably good running quarterbacks coming out of college and an increased willingness to run option offenses. Those guys who only scrambled on broken plays or could only get a shot in Canada, might have excelled - Steve Young in a Chip Kelly offense? He did just fine as it was, obviously. Just saying. Anyway...go hawks
  4. you'll be happy to know that Seattle is going mental right now.
  5. classic threads. i actually remember ending the last thread i commented on with the apocryphal (to paraphrase) "he's your problem now, i'm glad my tax dollars aren't paying for his appeals any more." years pass, run-ins with the law in the UK and then he pops up back in the States like the bad penny he is. maybe i'll take the contrary position and argue for his release.
  6. the kinks super furry animals spaceman 3 the beatles the crazy world of arthur brown the clash the jam the beta band hawkwind bowie joy division/new order the la's were it expanded to include irish bands/artists - Richard Harris. 'a tramp shining' and 'the yard went on forever' are like 'scott' and 'scott 4' but better. believe it.
  7. let me start by saying that in fairness, i hardly think i'd want to celebrate my first communion at Ibrox. could you imagine? i've only skimmed this, so forgive me, but is it really sectarian for a club to advertise in a church magazine? the issue of sectarianism isn't openly professing a faith, but openly condemning (or worse) someone of an other faith. there's a strong market within their fan base that is RC, so they found a way to make some extra money that is actually pretty innocuous (birthdays, communions). cynical - yes. sectarian or hypocritical - no.
  8. "the americans." i like that. all part of a secret CIA plan to spread american evils to unwilling and forced consumers. funny fact, every single american enters everyone of their children in pageants. further fact, every family in melbourne who are putting their kid in aren't doing so because they want to, but because every american is forcing them to.
  9. Bonne FĂȘte du Canada...paix, ordre et bon gouvernement, chiennes! calm and reasoned salutes from just south of the border. sorry i'm not up there this year. was in Victoria for it about two years ago and had a great time.
  10. while i really enjoyed the depth of investigative journalism, i just don't feel like it talked about Celtic enough. who do i talk to at the Daily Record to ensure that every article about Thistle is ultimately about one of the Old Firm? because i really think the Daily Record needs to do more of that.
  11. seems like more than a couple of the Canadians who appear on here time to time are from the Island. boston just slowed them down, too. the team speed just wasn't there when it mattered. plus, Thomas was just huge. ...and, as you said, the power play wasn't clicking. and they let themselves get pushed around too much. and i may have jinxed them by wearing my old school stick-in-rink-hat. i stopped during the Chicago series and they turned it around. i brought it back when Boston evened the series, but it wasn't enough. fnck... re: the rioting...i still say Seattle does that better.
  12. i think the common denominator here is me. i only support teams that lose. that was a disaster. even the rioting is a little lackluster
  13. nothing like a game 7. i've just never experienced a game 7 for the cup that i have been as emotionally invested in. GO CANUCKS GO!
  14. that was a great game and gives me hopes for a really exciting championship. tim thomas was huge in goal; truly unbelievable performance. it's even getting coverage by the local rags in seattle.
