  1. This is the subject of an article in the online version of The Scottish Sun. Amazingly the article chose to highlight the pronunciation by a contestant of the name of a certain Glasgow East End mob. Didn't highlight the fact that the chaser ("one of Britain's finest quiz brains") disnae know that Kilmarnck isnae in Glasgow! Also, whoever wrote it is unaware that Firhill is one word, not two! (Here endeth the rant).
  2. I have asked this question in e-mails to the club in the past. Result - NO REPLY!
  3. Re St.Johnstone's finances. Some seem to have missed one other piece of the article - they've got four and half million in the bank! Wish we were so financially bereft!
  4. I was at Cathkin for a Thirds v Morton friendly on a sunny summer evening where an un-named goalkeeper oppeared as a trialist for Morton. This guy wore all black (shirt, shorts, socks) and, since nobody other than Morton knew his name became well known thereafter as "the man in black". Very well known after - Erik Sorensen. .Does that ring any bells "exiledjag"?
  5. Haud oan a minute. How many women does a man need?
  6. Please elaborate. Who and who?
  7. I remember in the late sixties when we (the team) werenae very good, the Whiteinch and Maryhill branches of the PTSA shared a bus to Arbroath. The bus couldn't leave until the bus convener went to the local dance palais to encourage some of the boys that it was time to go home.
  8. Unbe(effin)lievable. Talkj about a sledgehammer to crack a nut! Love the bit about having to arrive not more than 2 hours before and not less than 1 hour before the start. Just plain daft.

    Cash Gates

THE PERCEPTION? Gie us a break! THE COST OF SOMEONE? (one) How much would someone be paid? Gie us another break!
  10. Possibly this subject has been raised (and explained) before on this forum, but here goes.. Why do some football clubs insist on this policy of not providing "on the day" access (Cash Gates or Ticket Booths) for those people who, for whatever reason, only decide belatedly that they would like to go to "a gemme"? Yesterday was a classic example. Cappielow - lovely open end (with the certainty of getting soaked if it rains - so you don't pay in advance). Fortunately the sun shone on us in more ways than one. I know 2 pals of mine who would have gone had they been able to just turn up on the day. How many more might have done? How many neutrals might have fancied it if they were in the area? I know Thistle provide the ability to buy a ticket for the JHS, but no chance for visiting fans. Last season we were able to pay cash at Hamilton, so what's the difficulty for others?. Ah cannae get ma heid roon' it!
  11. I second that contribution from Japan. (From a Jags fan in Thailand)
  12. Oh ye of little faith - surely 8 ties! (95% joking - 5% hoping).
  13. What a GOOD WIN that was (unless your name is Goodwin).
  14. I don't do Twitter, Facebook, instagram or anything similar. To me they're a scourge. For Thistle matters I check the official web site, this forum and I subscribe to Jagzone. I have e-mailed to the club on occasions which p*** me off , such as reserve games, when they tell you on the official site that a game will take place and say you can check the result on social media. Never had a response as to why they can't tell us on the club site.
  15. George Niven's first game - Feb.24 1962 we cuffed them 3 - 0. They did indeed go on to win the League that season. Sandy Brown scored against them the following season - Nov.10. The season we finished third - done in by the 2 month interruption to fitba' by the weather!
  16. No McMillan, Muirhead or Milne? What's the story? Also , according to the line-up shown on the PTFC site, Williams wore No. 2 and not No. 4, which he was said to wear, according to the official announcement at the time of signing. Can somebody clarify since I am still waiting for highlights to appear on Jagzone?
  17. OK m'lady. Thanks for saying I'm not cynical, so for more realism, hows about the SFA/Lord Haughey tie-up?
  18. Sorry for going off at a tangent. I was only made aware through this thread that Queens Park are to play at Hampden in the coming season. However Hampden is not available to them until after 12 September, so what do they do before then? Two League Cup games at Lesser Hampden (Elgin City and QOS) then the first 4 League games - 3 away and 1 at "home" to be played at Lesser Hampden against a team wth possibly, if not probably, the smallest travelling support in the division (Arbroath). Coincidence - I think not. Maybe the older I get, the more cynical I become.
  19. Donnie and Jackie obviously, but in the background - BIG Bobby Gray!
  20. Check the photo of Bertram Thomson on the Thistle Archive. Compare.
  21. Probably requires police intervention!
  22. Bertie Thomson - League Cup Quarter Final v Kilmarnock - 2nd leg - September 1953 TOTAL AND ABSOLUTE GUESS!
  23. OK D.D. I stand corrected. The question then is how the 5% (100,000 pounds, if 2 million pounds is the transfer fee) is split. Do clubs he was loaned to during his time as a Jag (East Stirlingshire, Ayr United and Dumbarton) get a cut?
