Who Are The Jags Players In This Photo?

The Hibs keeper is Ronnie Simpson.  His trademark was that he often (always?) played with his sleeves rolled up.  He played 5 times for Hibs at Firhill.  3 of these matches (30/8/1961, 21/10/1961 and 13/12/1961) saw Joe  McBride @No 8 but it doesn't look like him.   Of the remaining 2 matches it's not confirmed what the Hibs line-up was on 13/4/1963 but that match saw Jim Fleming @No 8.  Not convinced it's him.  Going for the remaining match on 2/11/1963.  Ernie Yard @ No 8.   Taking a punt the other Thistle player is Billy Hainey.

Niven, Hogan, Tinney, Closs, Harvey, Cunningham, Cowan, YARD, HAINEY, Duffy, McParland.

Thanks afk. The Ronnie Simpson id certainly pushes the game back to the earlier 60s. And the Hibs socks also put it between 61 and 64. Still thinking the other Jag might be McKinnon, based on the posture. Looks like he could have been up for a corner. Or Cunningham.

I doubt it was Cunningham.  He was all skin and bones!

So was the real Twiggy, but somehow she managed to make it look attractive!

According to the historical kits site that looks like the 1948-49 strip. At first I thought vs. Ayr United, but it looks more like Celtic.

It's not Celtic (or Queen's Park as I thought), could well be Ayr United

Can only find one game v Ayr United at Firhill between 1/5/1940 (Husband was playing) and April 1957 (too late for Jackie).  The other Thistle player has no number so suggests to me it's at least before the turn of the year 1946/47 when most clubs began to follow Airdrie's lead (August 1946) and have numbered shirts.

On yer bike! This is mostly easy, but I admit there are a couple of guys whose name doesn't yet spring to mind...

PS: Remember the old bench seating in the main stand?

This is the official opening of the Helenvale Sports Ground on 2/9/1924.  Thistle played Rangers in a glamour friendly (except that since it was 1-6 the glamour was all Rangers'). The bloke in the bowler is the Duke of York (future King George VI).  Presumably that's the Lord Provost there as well.

Andy Anderson, Brian Whittaker, John MacDonald and I'm guessing Alex O'Hara in the background.

4-3 win, 1980?

What a strip that is. Magnificent.

Agreed. It hasn't aged at all; would still look great among the modern visual catastrophes that pass for football strips.

A classic design from when I first went to Firhill. Plus always preferred red shorts to black.
