:detective: 19.09.2015 Ross County 1 Partick Thistle 0 (SPFL Premiership - game 8)

  • Kevin Nisbet makes his competitive debut for the club.
  • Thistle have failed to score in 9 of their last 10 competitive games - an unprecedented run in the club's history.
  • Having failed to score in 5 consecutive competitive away games, Archie's Jags have equalled the club-record run for the category, set by Donald Turner's side in a stretch of games from 8th March 1930 to 16th August 1930.
  • Across the 10 main British Leagues, Partick Thistle stand alone at the bottom of the "goals for" column, with a paltry tally of 2.
  • Thistle's shyness in front of goal has been a continuing problem for a long period. Losses to nil (almost always narrowly) were a big statistical characteristic of last season's League campaign - there were 12 of them in total - and it was (jointly) the 3rd highest tally ever recorded by the club. With 5 out of 8 having been returned already this term, League season 2015-16 is shaping up to be even worse.
  • You have to rewind back to 1986 to find the last time that Thistle went 9 competitive games without a win to start a season (the run was 10 that year).
  • Now sitting at 12 competitive games without a win, we're on the longest run in the category since Sandy Clark was in charge for 14 of a 15 game sequence in season 1989-90.
  • Failure to score at Fir Park next week would see Archie's Jags equal the all-time club-record of failing to score in 6 consecutive competitive games; set by George Easton's team in 1921 and equalled by John Lambie's side in 1999.

ongoing sequences:

  • 8 games since a home win, 16th May 2015 to date.

I still find it baffling that after stats like that, some folk still cannot say or read anything that wrongs Archibald.

If his most recent predecessors had stats like that they'd have been shouting for their hear at least 2 games ago.

But Jags legend Archibald, who jumped ship to DU before when they came-a-calling, nope!! He's exempt from criticism as its all the board's fault.

Oh well, at least we didn't equal the six games without scoring record.

But we are now on the joint 4th worst winless run of our history.

Yep, joint 4th in terms of "winless runs to start the season", Barney. I've dug out the all-time figures (the present run is now on the horizon) and bunged them in today's spoiler.

I think its important to notice that we never lost ground on the league leaders this week and it's that we need to focus on.

Bawz. This was an ideal opportunity to close in on Aberdeen. You can forget the title now IMVHO.

BOOM, DINK, BOMP - GOAL. EASY.

▪ (@5:12) Top notch strength, precison and composure in the box from Mathias, Dan and David. MORE OF THIS PLEASE.

:detective: 26.09.2015 Motherwell 2 Partick Thistle 1 (SPFL Premiership - game 9)

  • Thistle's outrageous / bizarre 19 month run of 8 competitive games without a goal in the away strip finally comes to an end. David Amoo, with his first goal for the club, becomes the first Jag to register out of the red n yella since Higgy, in grey and white, put Thistle 3-2 up on 15 February 2014... at Fir Park.
  • Talking of the bizarre, David's goal puts the end point as 25th September on a new time-span club-record; 131 days had passed with only one player - Kris Doolan - having registered a competitive goal on the score sheets, the longest such stretch recorded since competitive games became the majority in the fixture card in 1891-92.
  • Dan Seaborne registers his first assist for the club. Although, according to the ever-unreliable stats world, he is the spitting image of Abdul Osman.
  • Thistle return a full month's worth of defeats for the first time since November 2013.
  • In another unwelcome first for Archie's Jags, they lose six on the trot. Derek Whyte & Gerry Britton were the last to do the same when, whilst a second tier side, they lost 6 games all in one apalling month, September 2004. Gerry Collins was the last manager to go longer, being responsible for losing 8 of the 9-in-a-row run in 2003.
  • The agonising wait for a competitive victory in 2015-16 now goes into double figures; it's 43 years since the wait was longer.
  • Thistle are on a horrible run of 11 competitive games without a home win vs Dundee United. Next week presents an ideal opportunity to put an end to that run and to get off the bottom of the League by leapfrogging the DABS. #COYJ

ongoing sequences:

  • 6 consecutive competitive defeats, 22nd Aug 2015 to date.
  • 6 competitive games since a home win, 16th May 2015 to date.

  • 8 games since a home win, 16th May 2015 to date.
  • 13 competitive games since a win, 9th May 2015 to date.
  • 15 competitive games without defeat when we score the opening goal, 23rd Sep 2014 to date.
  • 18 competitive games since a win in the away strip, 29th Dec 2012 to date.
  • 19 competitive games since a half-time lead, 21st Mar 2015 to date.
  • 20 consecutive competitive appearances for Callum Booth, 14th Mar 2015 to date. (Longest run since: Stuart Bannigan - 23 games; 24th Jan 2015 to 22nd Aug 2015. Club record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

ARCHIE'S SEVEN NATION ARMY EQUAL 3 CLUB RECORDS

1z5455s.jpg

▪ Man of the match Mustapha Dumbuya was at the heart of the action as he helped Jags to their first win of the season.

:detective: 03.10.2015 Partick Thistle 3 Dundee United 0 (SPFL Premiership - game 10)

  • At kick off time there were 6 nations represented in the Thistle line-up; the Czech Republic, Sierra Leone, Scotland, England, Ghana and Guinea. This actually equals the club-record which was set at the Caledonian Stadium on Wednesday 12th August 2015. It's now the 4th time this season there has been a 6 nation spread at the starting line up.
  • Thistle get that all important first goal - in matches which start in such a fashion, Jags are now unbeaten in 16 competitive games.
  • David Amoo is first Jag to score 2 games-in-a-row since Christie Elliott did so in November 2014.
  • With their one goal advantage at the break, Thistle ended their run of 19 competitive games without a half-time lead.
  • Mustapha Dumbuya's strike ensures Sierra Leone's place as the 18th nation known to be represented on the Thistle goalscoring charts. The full list reads: Australia, Belgium, England, Finland, France, Ghana, India, Ireland, Ivory Coast, Kosovo, Namibia, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Sierra Leone, Spain, Sweden, the USA and Wales.
  • Stuart's counter ensured a share of an all-time club-record three-nation scoresheet; England, Sierra Leone and Scotland.
  • The introduction of Singaporean Ryan Edwards brought Thistle's nation total up to seven within the 90 minutes. This equals the club-record which was set just last week at Fir Park. Last week's game had further established an outright record by virtue of having seven nation representation on the pitch at the same time (the final 25 minutes).
  • Thistle register their biggest victory margin over United since a three nil top-flight win at Tannadice on 11th November 1972.
  • Thistle register back to back League wins against United for the first time since 1964.
  • This win represents an ideal start to Archie's reign as the outright longest serving gaffer in the Scottish Premiership, now standing proudly at 2 years, 8 months, 4 days. Hard to believe he's still only 37. :wacko2:

ongoing sequences:

  • 7 competitive games without an away win, 9th May 2015 to date.
  • 16 competitive games without defeat when we score the opening goal, 23rd Sep 2014 to date.
  • 18 competitive games without a win in the away strip, 29th Dec 2012 to date.

  • 48 competitive games without a penalty award, 19th Sep 2014 to date.
  • 66 competitive games without a goal from a penalty, 22nd Feb 2014 to date.

Lyle Taylor represents Montserrat is that not another for the list?

I thought that Ryan played for the Australian national teams. It doesn't change the stat, I know he was born in Singapore, but you woud have to give him the nationality of the country he plays for.

Thanks for the challenges CJ / DD, always appreciated.

Doing the stats to a decent, consistent standard requires lines to be drawn and policy decisions to be made.

For all stats relating to nationhood I adhere strictly to the country of birth for each player.

FIFA eligibity can include several countries these days - all the way from country of birth, naturalised citizenship, length of time studying in a country to land of birth of parents and grandparents.

The organisation even allows players to change their minds after initial commitment for b-teams, olympic teams and under-age teams.

In short, this seems to me to be a recipe for chaos and confusion - and that's not good for stats. In the Thistle scoring chart, countries could move both in and out depending on the selected criteria.

You might disagree with my list - and you'd have a point - but at least you can rely on my reports to be accurate and consistent within my outlined terms.

I'll take on board the need for terms applied to be included conspicuously where there may be ambiguity.

A teaser for international week

...for a cyber pint...

Can you name any of the two full English internationalists that have played for Partick Thistle?

An Englishman posted to the Glasgow area during the Second World War??

That's where I'd be coming from, but I'm surprised I've not heard of at least one of the two given the Shankly thing. I don't believe TJR deals in the tricky stuff like Ian Botham/Scunthorpe type posers so really stuck with this one.

World War 1??
