Lambies Lost Doo
GHA want to build all weather pitch on one of their grass pitches so their teams and the community can use it all year round. It's the type of facility Scotland and Glasgow needs more of. However the local residents have complained which is the usual. If any Thistle fan lives close by then I appeal to you to support the project. http://www.gharugby.co.uk/news.htm
gianlucatoni
The unholy marriage of these two bastions of segregated schooling for the wealthy elite (along with the old Glasgow Southern) looking for support from the local community for an artificial pitch - please spare me the platitudes. Sorry to burst your bubble LLD, but GHA used up all their good neighbour tokens a number of years back when they sh^t all over the local residents and erected a mobile phone mast on their grounds for a filthy few grand. They also had a plan to build a 7s/5s complex at Braidholm back in 2009-11 but by completely bypassing the locals and trying to fly it in under the planning radar they were eventually rumbled and forced to back down - a tactic that won them few friends. The southside is awash with quality grass pitches and artificial surfaces - grass pitches at Bogton (a stones throw away from GHA), Overlee, Parklands, Huntly, Giffnock North & Woodfarm with artificial full pitches at Woodfarm, Williamwood, Eastwood High, Rouken Glen 7s/5s, etc etc - and all in the local community within a mile or 2 from GHA. They've not been interested in the round ball game at Braidholm (ever) but dwindling rugby participation and memberships have forced a right about turn on the business model and they are after the easy cash from mass participation football - GTF with that. Is that a "no" then?
Lambies Lost Doo
I take it you're a local neighbour then? I live in Cathcart so not local local but watched them a few times and been in the club couple times. Good fireworks and beer festival too. This city can't get enough of these pitches. gianlucatoni
Indeed - and I'll be most interested to hear what they say at the public meeting later this month. You mentioned that locals were against it and that may or may not be correct - but it is interesting to note that there are currently no adverse comments on the plan at East Ren HQ. The cynic in me (given that the photograph on their website shows only a rugby pitch but the only photo on the application/plan is of a football goalpost) would suggest that it's another fly attempt to get 7's in by the back door masquerading as a rugby pitch significantly increasing traffic, noise pollution and light leakage/pollution throughout winter.
