Just catching up on the Fitz Statz.

Would I be right in saying that Aidan has scored on his debut for Thistle in 3 separate Cup competitions?

Away v Albion Rovers in the League Cup

Away v Stranraer in the Challenge/Irn Bru Cup

Home v Stranraer in the Scottish Cup

That must be some sort of record.

Nice one ptd. Aidan's the first Jag ever to score in three competition debuts as a 17-year-old! Previously, Peter McKennan and Jim Melrose did two at that young age. The overall record-holders are Jimmy McColl and Peter McKennan with 5 apiece:

Jimmy McColl (5)
02.05.1922 Celtic [h] L*3-3 (Glasgow Charity Cup Quarter Final) after extra-time (2-2, 90 mins); * Celtic won 8-6 on corners
02.09.1922 Rangers [a] L1-3 (Glasgow Cup Quarter Final)
08.10.1921 Albion Rovers [a] W1-0 (SFL First Division - game 11)
15.11.1921 Clyde [h] W4-2 (Lord Provost's Rent Relief Fund Cup Quarter Final)
28.01.1922 Dumbarton Harp [h] W7-0 (Scottish Cup 1st Round)

Peter McKennan (5)
04.09.1935 Third Lanark [a] L1-2 (Glasgow Cup Quarter Final)
09.05.1936 St Mirren [a] W3-0 (Paisley Charity Cup Final)
09.12.1939 Celtic [h] W4-2 (Regional League, Western Division - game 8)
05.06.1943 Hibernian [h] L2-5 (Summer Cup 1st Round, 2nd leg)
20.04.1946 Clachnacuddin [a] D2-2 (Victory Cup 1st Round, 1st leg)

Did we start with 9 Scots yesterday? Probably a while since we did that

8 Scots in the starting line-up on Saturday for the second time this season, the last two games with Queen of the South in fact. The last time there were more (10) was the 1-0 League Cup win at Airdrie in July, 2016, Danny Devine being the odd-man-out on that occasion.

26.01.2019 Queen of the South [h] W2-1 (SPFL Championship - game 22)
JANUARY STOPS THE ROT

  • 21-year-old Jack McMillan makes his Thistle debut.
  • Stuart Bannigan registers his 200th competitive appearance for Thistle.
  • Joe Cardle's two starts have resulted in two goals.
  • Miles Storey scores his fifth goal for Thistle and, for the fifth time, the club win the match in question.
  • Stephen Dobbie scores against Thistle for the third consecutive game this season. Thistle's paltry tally of 21 League goals in 2018-19 looks somewhat ridiculous against Dobbie's personal haul of 19.
  • Thistle go 8 home League games unbeaten against Queen's, extending the ongoing H2H record.
  • Thistle's 4th consecutive home League win against the Doonhamers matches the H2H record (4) set in 1957.
  • For the first time since July, 2017, Thistle go one calendar month without defeat in competitive action.

ongoing sequences:

  • 10 competitive away games without a win, 25th Aug 2018 to date. (Longest run since: 10 games; 19th Aug 2017 to 27th Dec 2017. Club-record: 26 games; 28th Nov 1908 to 28th Aug 1909.)
  • 10 second-tier away games without a win to start off this season, 4th Aug 2018 to date. (Longest run since the club-record: 12 games; 11th Aug 1984 to 12th Jan 1985.)
  • 11 second-tier away games without a win, 4th May 2013 to date. (Longest run since: 14 games; 11th Sep 2004 to 9th Apr 2005. Club-record: 17 games; 16th Sep 1989 to 25th Aug 1990.)
  • 40 consecutive competitive appearances for Blair Spittal, 31st Mar 2018 to date, a new personal best for the player. (Longest run since: Adam Barton - 54 games; 28th Dec 2016 to 3rd Feb 2018. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
  • 71 games since back-to-back League wins, 11th Mar 2017 to date. (Longest run since: 71 games; 16th Apr 2013 to 14th Mar 2015. Club-record: 77 games; 2nd Nov 1912 to 5th Dec 1914.)

Thanks TJR. Some fascinating stats and amazing competition names in there. Interesting to see Mark Roberts, Damon Gray  and Stevie Lawless riding high in the lists.

What was the public response to competitions like the Lord Provost's Rent Relief Fund Cup?  Presumably we played Clyde relatively frequently, so there would be no great novelty factor. Would attendance be similar to a League/Scottish Cup game, or would there just be a few hardy or benevolent souls or anoraks like me or balaclava wearers like Auld Jag?

The one-off tourney was one of a number of fund-raising events were held at the time to aid the unemployed, and all 6 League teams from Glasgow took part. Attendances were maybe less than half the League average, although still healthy enough to raise some decent funds; in the region of 5,000 for the Thistle v Clyde game and around 10,000 for Thistle v Rangers in the semi. 20,000 saw the final between Rancid and Septic. No balaclavas. Everyone wore a bunnet no matter what.

02.02.2019 Inverness Caledonian Thistle [a] W2-1 (SPFL Championship - game 23)

OLD & YOUNG MIX ENDS HORROR RUNS

  • 33-year-old Steven Anderson makes his Thistle debut. He becomes the fourth player of the 2018-19 season to join our scoring debutants club.
  • Steven is the oldest to score on his competitive debut since Steve Maskrey (33y, 11m, 25d) netted on Saturday, 10th August, 1996, in a 3-1 win (aet) at home to Queen's Park in the Challenge Cup.
  • With his 5th competitive assist of the season, Craig Slater joins Blair Spittal at the top of that table.
  • Thistle have now listed 35 players on the competitive team-sheets this season.
  • Aidan Fitzpatrick becomes one of only 13 known 17-year-olds to have scored for Thistle in the League. He's the youngest since Shaun Fraser (17y, 8m, 6d) did so on Tuesday, 8th March, 2011, in a 3-1 win at home to Queen of the South in the SFL First Division.
  • Thistle fans enjoy a 2 goal half-time lead on a League away-day for the first time since Tuesday 10th May, 2016, when the side led 2-0 at Tannadice (a match which finished 3-3).
  • Thistle's victory ends the H2H record run of 4 winless competitive games vs. the Inverness side.
  • February 2nd 2019 goes down in history as the latest date that Thistle fans have ever had to wait for the first away win of a second tier campaign in any given season.
  • Thistle finally win back-to-back League games for the first time since March, 2017. It was jointly the club's second longest such run in history, matching the 71 game streak set in 2015.

ongoing sequences:

  • 5 competitive games without defeat, 5th Jan 2019 to date. (Longest run since: 5 games; 11th Mar 2017 to 8th Apr 2017. Joint club-record: 16 games; 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.)
  • 41 consecutive competitive appearances for Blair Spittal, 31st Mar 2018 to date, a new personal best for the player. (Longest run since: Adam Barton - 54 games; 28th Dec 2016 to 3rd Feb 2018. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

When was the last time a team put us out of two national cups in the same season?

Hopefully not adding to it this weekend.

edit: I know Rangers, Dundee United, and Celtic have done it to us in the same calendar year (2008, 2016, 2018) but those were across 2 seasons

^ So, I reckon there to be 13 domestic nationals: Anglo-Scottish Cup; Challenge Cup; Drybrough Cup; Emergency Cup; FA Cup; Scottish Cup; Scottish Qualifying Cup; Southern League Cup; Spring Cup; St Mungo Cup; Summer Cup; Victory Cup; War Fund Shield. For the purposes of this query, only the knockout ties of the League Cups, Spring Cup and Summer Cup were included.

Query result: Thistle have never been eliminated from the knockout stages of two national cups by the same team in the same season. Gulp.

09.02.2019 East Fife [a] W1-0 (Scottish Cup 5th Round)

PARTICK THISTLE OVERTAKE QUEEN'S PARK IN SCOTTISH CUP HISTORY

  • Thistle keep their 6th consecutive first-half clean-sheet and have yet to concede a first-half goal in 2019.
  • With his 6th competitive assist of the season, Craig Slater now sits as our leading goal maker in 2018-19.
  • Steven Anderson joins a unique group of 36 players to have scored in their first two competitive games for Thistle and, at 33, is the oldest to have done so (albeit the ages of only 21 of the 36 are known). Only 7 players have been beyond this point, Juan Ramón (5) in 2004 being the last of these. The record (6) was set in 1900, and lies with Tom Hyslop.
  • 21-year-old Lewis Mansell makes his Thistle debut.
  • Conor Hazard keeps his first clean-sheet for Thistle.
  • The Jags qualify for the Scottish Cup Quarter Finals for the 33rd time. 138 years after playing our first game in the tournament, Partick Thistle finally overtake the Quarter Final tally (32) amassed by the once mighty Queen's Park!

ongoing sequences:

  • 4 consecutive competitive wins, 19th Jan 2019 to date. (Longest run since: 4 games; 11th Feb 2017 to 1st Mar 2017. Club-record: 10 games; 22nd Oct 1932 to 26th Dec 1932.)
  • 6 competitive games without defeat, 5th Jan 2019 to date. (Longest run since: 8 games; 7th May 2016 to 6th Aug 2016. Joint club-record: 16 games; 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.)
  • 42 consecutive competitive appearances for Blair Spittal, 31st Mar 2018 to date, a new personal best for the player. (Longest run since: Adam Barton - 54 games; 28th Dec 2016 to 3rd Feb 2018. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)

16.02.2019 Alloa Athletic [a] W2-0 (SPFL Championship - game 24)

OLD MCDONALD SETS RECORD

  • Blair Spittal, voted player of the month for both December & January, nets his 8th competitive goal of the season, re-extending his lead at the top of our scoring charts to 3.
  • Thistle have now struck the first blow in all 7 of their competitive matches in 2019.
  • 35-year-old Scott McDonald makes his Thistle debut. Remarkably, he becomes the FIFTH player of the 2018-19 season to join our scoring debutants club. In competitive action, it's the second greatest number in any given season of the club's history. The record (7) was set in season 1900-01.
  • As far as is known, Scott (35y, 5m, 26d) becomes the oldest player ever to score on his competitive debut for Thistle. He takes the record from Adam McLean (34y, 3m, 16d), who scored twice in a famous 7-3 win at Douglas Park, the opening game of the 1933-34 League season.
  • Thistle have now listed 36 players on the competitive team-sheets this season.
  • 6 of the current squad are striving to protect 100% competitive win records as Jags: Jack McMillan (4), Callum Wilson (3), Steven Anderson (3), Lewis Mansell (2), Aaron Lennox (1) and Scott McDonald (1).
  • Thistle win 3 consecutive competitive away games for the first time since 2013. The club-record (6) was set by Dick Campbell's Thistle in August, 2006.
  • On a 3 pts-per-win basis for all competitive matches, Thistle's 7 game start to 2019 has yielded 2.43 pts-per-game, the best since John Lambie's Jags returned an identical figure to start 2002.

ongoing sequences:

  • 3 consecutive competitive away wins, 2nd Feb 2019 to date. (Longest run since: 4 games; 2nd Mar 2013 to 30th Mar 2013. Club-record: 6 games; 15th Apr 2006 to 8th Aug 2006.)
  • 5 consecutive competitive wins, 19th Jan 2019 to date. (Longest run since: 5 games; 15th Jul 2016 to 6th Aug 2016. Club-record: 10 games; 22nd Oct 1932 to 26th Dec 1932.)
  • 7 consecutive competitive first-half clean-sheets, 5th Jan 2019 to date.
  • 7 competitive games without defeat, 5th Jan 2019 to date. (Longest run since: 8 games; 7th May 2016 to 6th Aug 2016. Joint club-record: 16 games; 15th Nov 1975 to 21st Feb 1976 & 30th Sep 2000 to 13th Jan 2001.)
  • 43 consecutive competitive appearances for Blair Spittal, 31st Mar 2018 to date, a new personal best for the player. (Longest run since: Adam Barton - 54 games; 28th Dec 2016 to 3rd Feb 2018. Club-record: Johnny Jackson - 313 games; 28th Aug 1926 to 25th Mar 1933.)
