BB, I appreciate that a competition scoring suggestion from a forum member who cannot even count to 16 may seem incongruous, but here goes.

How about awarding bonus points (or even better an extra team?) to any contestant who successfully predicts a victory by a team in a lower tier than the team they defeat? To make it easy all non-SPFL teams can be deemed to be in the fifth tier.

This might encourage contestants to go outside the box rather than stick to the safe big team options. Also later on in the competition, it might allow a way back into contention to those who have less teams to select from, thus spicing up the competition.

Just a thought but feel free to say hahahahahahahaha.

 Very good.

Yes, I remember now that you have suggested this before.

I like the idea, a good way of increasing the number of selections for later in the competition.

From Round 5 one can only select teams from those previously selected. This is a device to introduce a '[bad] luck of the draw' element. Therefore it's hard to introduce bonus selection awards from Round 4 onwards. However, there is usually quite a big drop off of selections in the first couple of rounds so worth implementing it for those.

I'll look into it tomorrow. Of course, anyone who has already selected would be offered the chance to reselect.

Thanks.

Competition Update

I have amended the OP with a new points system based on seeding.

I realised that, in my haste to start the competition, I hadn't stated that selections would drop off in the early rounds. So I have made it that selections remain constant at 16 until Round 5. This will ensure greater interest in the latter rounds.

I have tried to make selection as easy as possible and hope that it hasn't become too complicated. I think it will benefit the competition.

I will send PM to those who have entered inviting re-selection.

That's a brilliant new set of rules, BB, and I have decided to reward your efforts by changing my selections. This is not an attempt to win the competition, but I am hoping to rake in the odd spectacular haul of bonus points when the shocks start to happen. Rather than guessing who will win, I am going for who I want to win, in the hope that they will play Thistle in a later round. My guiding principles are as follows, in order:

1) Always favour an SPFL team I have not yet seen playing Thistle. In my case Cove Rangers, Edinburgh City and Elgin City.

2) Always favour any team I have not yet seen playing Thistle.

3) Always favour the wee team.

4) Always favour the most interesting location to visit (usually the most remote and out of the way destination).

I am doing these in 4 blocks of 4 so I do not mis-count!

AHAH

AHHA

HHAA

Bonus team Edinburgh City.

Thank you for all your hard work in organising this. Much appreciated.

Select the teams that will make it through to the next round.

In Rounds 2, 3 & 4 you will have 16 selections. From the 5th round you can only select teams that you picked in the previous round. Incorrect selections will mean, therefore, less options to choose from in succeeding rounds.

Selection Points

One point for each correct selection in Round 2. This will increase by one point in each successive round. Therefore, correctly selecting the Cup winner is worth seven points.

Seeding Points

Teams are seeded according to their league position. There are 6 groups - Premiership; Championship; League One; League Two; Highland/Lowland League; East of Scotland/SJFA
Additional points will be awarded if your selected team knocks out a team from a higher group. One point per level. A further point will be awarded if it is an away win.
To make it simple I have identified these fixtures in the list below i.e. H2 means a home win would gain 2 seeding points.

Bonus Points

Bonus point questions will be sprinkled throughout the competition. One point each.

Round Two fixtures
Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic v Buckie Thistle
        Edinburgh City v Banks O' Dee A3
Auchinleck Talbot v Cove Rangers H2
        Penicuik Athletic v Stenhousemuir H2
Albion Rovers v Fort William A2
        East Kilbride v Gretna 2008
        Cowdenbeath v Broxburn Athletic A3
        Clachnacuddin v Brora Rangers
        Rothes v Inverurie Loco Works
        Spartans v Queen's Park H1
Elgin City v Berwick Rangers A2
Formartine United v Gala Fairydean Rovers
        Annan Athletic v Brechin City
Lochee United v BSC Glasgow H1
Stirling Albion v Strathspey Thistle A2
Stirling University v Linlithgow Rose A2

Post your selections below. To make it easy, post h or a for each fixture as a single string of letters eg haahhahahhahhahh. Please check there are 16 letters before posting.

Deadline for entries 7.05pm, Friday 18 October
