Mothballing the lower leagues sums up Scottish Football nicely. Your Div One club gets to vote on relegating a club that possibly could start the season playing behind closed doors. Instead that club finds itself in a league that can't even start their fixtures never mind fulfil them.

The EFL are very specific on this:

'The principle of relegation across all three divisions is integral to the integrity of the pyramid, from the Premier League down to the National League, provided we have assurances that the National League will start season 2020/21 (i.e. the relegated Club in League Two has somewhere to play).'

The costs of testing will come down as many companies are devloping kits.

It's a fast moving situation and think as someone said above the virus will decide what happens.

I’m sure they will, but teams can’t commit to starting a season based on a chance that tests might come down in price.

Perhaps clubs need to look at a way of funding it. We have individual and team sponsorship why not COVID test sponsorship

Don't we need to be in a situation where the virus has been so heavily suppressed and the R number below 0.5 ? [I'm not sure of what the R number has to be for the virus to be classed as 'suppressed']

I think the footballing authorities will be looking for these tests to be a confirmation that the players are clear rather than being a part of the 'test , trace, isolate' procedure.

Football is restarting across Europe .....Germany, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia etc etc.....mostly initially without fans but that may change....

the cost of testing is coming down eg Senegal are trialing a test that will cost $1...

https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg24632823-700-cheap-and-easy-1-coronavirus-test-to-undergo-trials-in-senegal/

and other are doing the same in Asia

In addition, the virus is on the wane and  it may well mutate and disappear like SARS it’s not inevitable there is a second big wave.....

Prof Karl Sikora today....

Here are the latest daily infection figures for the four European countries that eased their lockdowns back in mid-April (accelerating since).

Denmark - 59
Norway - 14
Czech Republic - 77
Austria - 50

No second wave, not even a tiny ripple.

Then there is the work on treatments and vaccines across the globe

summer holidays In Europe are back on the agenda  and so is football....

It might not be all doom and gloom!

Think you could be right , spoke to a doctor friend and he’s of the opinion the virus will blow itself out within the next couple of months with or without a vaccine.

Nobody knows ,but the number of daily deaths in Scotland is almost down to single figures which has got to be a positive and providing there is no second wave it’s looking a bit more promising for the future.

The problem with this scenario is without cases you cant trial the vaccine effectively so it could be we have to adapt the a different way of living ….. perhaps in years to come seated football grounds will disappear to be replaced by terracing with safe standing areas, [this is something I could live with]

Although it's a nice thought that the virus will disappear completely, I think that is a sort of 'Trump / Unicorns and Rainbows' way of thinking, more likely it is a virus we just learn to live with.

18 infected after going to a restaurant in Niedersachsen

50 infected in a church near Frankfurt

147 infected in a slaughterhouse on the Dutch/German border

Wish I shared your optimism.

Part of me would not be surprised if the chancers who run the game thought they could cut League 1 and League 2 teams adrift. There would be a hell of a stushie, but I think these characters would stop at nothing to 'unburden' themselves from diluting the piss-poor prize pot they'll be crowing about when football 're-starts'.

Think USA will be the key country in determining how soon we get back to normal. They are lifting restrictions particularly in Republican states and the next few weeks will show whether they are still infecting each other. If they are then all countries must ban entry of all USA travellers to ensure they do not spread the virus.

Cyprus has already banned all UK and USA arrivals.

This is why Falkirk are now pushing the SPFL to construct a football league or league consisting of clubs that can afford to play behind closed doors. In League 1 that would be Falkirk and us!

Any other club?

Here's hoping for Anne Budge and her reconstruction proposal though wouldn't surprise me if McLennan, given that PTFC made a public attack on him, did his best to keep us in League 1!

Falkirk and ourselves could contest the Forth and Clyde Canal League. Top 2 are promoted to the Championship and are replaced by the only two other teams reasonably proximate to the Canal, namely East Stirling and Kelpie Hearts.:getmecoat:

from Kheredine at bbc

Away from Downing St, am told the @spfl Championship meeting discussed starting Scotland’s 2nd tier in Oct but clubs want comfort from @scotgov (Fri) that stadia will be able to reopen with 1/3rd capacity by Jan (eg 6-7000 @JamTarts ) to finance completion of 18 or 27 game season
