It's testament to how bored l am that l've started trawling Netflix for things to watch. Anyway The English Game, which is loosely based on history, features two Scottish players Fergus Sutar and James Love who leave Partick to join Darwen. The date of their move is 1878.

Anybody know what (or who) the football team Partick are - is it us? And if it is, why do we not know more about the best players in the world at that time beginning their careers with us?

Anyway, here's what they have on Wikipedia about Sutar

Just started watching it.

The link below, you may have to zoom in, would suggest that they were indeed Partick Thistle players, and therefore that the Jags introduced real football to England.

Looked again. I think East End Jag may well be right, that it is a different Partick FC, but the information on the Internet about these players is pretty inconsistent and there are plenty references to Thistle. Link below seems pretty reliable though.

By the way I'm not sure I'd recommend it. After getting excited about the early references to Partick it went downhill pretty quickly.

We're Partick and Thistle not two separate football teams who were located close to each other, in Partick (somewhere) and Whiteinch?

I think but not sure that Partick were the bigger team and that a some point they merged when Thistle ran into financial difficulties.

I remember reading a bit about the history  in the Partick Thistle Book, which I borrowed) years ago. Was it published to mark our centenary?
