From the farmers website:

Tonight’s Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle has been called off and all efforts are now being put into getting the game to go ahead tomorrow (Wednesday).

Although a pitch inspection was planned for lunchtime, the club have agreed with the SFA that such an excercise would be a mere formality and that an earlier decision would suit supporters.

A pitch inspection will take place at 1 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon.

Thought they had covers for the pitch? How can they be snow on it then?

After Saturday's postponment, despite all weather forecasts I looked at predicting snow and/or rainfall on Sunday evening and first half of Monday, the Farmers in their infinite wisdom never put covers down, to gave pitch any protection.

They then made no attempt to clear snow from pitch and surrounding area yesterday (while it was soft and easier dealt with), and with forecasts (once again being proved correct) of sub-zero temperatures overnight, todays early postponment was guaranteed.

In other words, they didn't bother their backsides in making ANY attempt to get this game on tonight.

Add in their clear failure to have covers last week securely held down, and then when they did get lifted by winds they made no attempt to rectify this and protect their pitch for the best part of 16 hours while heavy rain battered down onto a pitch they knew had major issues over drainage.......utter shambles and incompetents.

No chance of game going ahead on Wednesday either imo - more snow and sleet forecast to fall from midnight tonight in Perth area, with temperatures barely getting above freezing during daylight hours of Wednesday.

I agree with every word. The big question is why have Saints made such little, or no, effort. With secure covers, ground staff to clear the snow and under-soil heating, it should have been possible to get this game on.

My guess is that, with less than 5,000 total fans for the last two SPL home games, Saints have money problems. It would cost a fair bit to pay the wages, over-time and heating costs - more than postponing the game and hoping for a bigger crowd in better weather. They could not care less about the Jags fans, just their cash-flow.

Scottish football is in deep financial trouble. Many clubs have to face up to the fact that full-time football is not sustainable on average crowds of less than 5,000.

It could be that we'll play away on Saturday to Queens then Monday night at McDiarmid. St J have a home game on Saturday and play us on Monday. Who of the two clubs stands to have the advantage of closely congested fixtures? Answer, the club with the larger pool of players.

Same goes if there's a replay two nights later.

Anyone know the weather forecast for the Dumfries area this Saturday coming?

Snow/rain Wednesday.

Dry Thursday.

Rain Friday.

Dry saturday.

Lets hope Queens have better pitch protection, drainage and have their groundstaff working (after all they need the income from games badly just now as well) than those of the feeble farmers, otherwise can see this game being another midweek fixture.

The replay was scheduled for the 15th. If the game is postponed, it will moved to that date. If it is postponed again, it would probably move to following evening.

We and Saints have games on the 22nd but the 29th/30th would be available if needed.

:mad2: Damn it! I was looking forward to today's jaunt up to perth. I've even been trying to get people on the forum facebook page woken up (without much luck) to see who was going.

There had seriously better not be a third postponement or I WILL start breaking things

A total farse, a nice gesture would be to reduce admission prices for the fans who have been inconvenienced, what are the chance?

When the country is covered in tundra like a couple of months ago fair enough but the weather is alright just now, a bit of effort would've seen it on.

A days notice to get the game on and for Thistle fans to rearrange travel plans, is ridiculous. As is playing such an important tie on a Monday night two days after a league game, if it fails another inspection. No thought for the Jags support. Conspiracy?
