sorry that you see any comment as being negative but my point is that one thistle has positive written all over it and to use a cliche, it has a positive open goal all over it.

for the avoidance of any doubt from anyone i'm all for what one thistle is about. i applaud everyone who gets involved and makes an effort to improve things. fact is it should have been done years ago.

my point was that it comes across as another wee thistle closed door thing that unless you're in then you're out. classic thistle of battening down the hatches when anyone not on the inside offers a different view point or suggestion. if that's not the case then great but if that's how it can be seen that that has to be a concern? surely history tells you that doing it differently means just that, not just the bits that you want.

and just to reiterate, i'm all for one thistle.

I'll tell you why that's not true.

I've never been involved in ANYTHING to do with the club. I turn up, pay my money and that's been it. So for me to become involved at any level means that it certainly isn't closed door.

At the meeting we were ENCOURAGED to get more people involved. Me and Dave set about doing this THAT DAY. We started speaking to the shed boys, as many as we could get round in the space of 90 minutes.

I can't speak for anyone involved, but as DP said that he thinks there should be a calm and clear spokesperson I thought I'd ask, isn't Ian Maxwell meant to be heading this up? If so, I imagine the club will release a similar statement to ian_mac's first post in this topic, but only when arrangements are finalised. I can't see anything secretive about the one thistle team, and to my knowledge this is the first time ian and dave J have been involved in any official club business, so to say the same old faces are running with their same old agendas is pointless. Ian has said who he met with, so why is this argument still carrying on?

As for calling him an angry wee man, he's passionate about thistle but I'd say your comment is well wide of the mark. Ian and JJ have been clear, concise and to the point all through this thread and in any posts of theirs I have read on here. It's up to you to construe that as brusque or angry if you see it that way, but that's it, you're just reading it that way.

Twinny,

i was one of the two who ran the Firhill Music Collective (ian assisted on quite a few occasions). A fans run event attempting to put on small gigs in the maryhill area pre match to bring the music crowd to Firhill.

I was also part of the first reincarnation of the Jags Trust. i had assisted the big hitters in ensuring an EGM was called etc, then put myself forward for election to ensure the numbers were there to have an election. i was a regular poster on the old forum and at the time of those elections, i didn't enter into any election debate (q&a thread) on the forum in an attempt to pull votes.... i came last. but was co-opted as membership sec, serving for 18 months.

During my spell on the Trust board, i wrote a consultation document, setting down rules and guidelines of engagement between the club and trust boards, with the aim to be that the document be accepted by the club as a format to work on for future joint projects, it was presented to Alan Cowan, Tom Hughes and Gordon Peden... they turned down the suggestion. strangely the 1876 club merger joint committee took up the exact set up i had suggested.

since then i had become quite disolutioned with things at Firhill, mostly due to events and actions of people from the boardroom. but i think one of the few things i have going for me (apart from my good looks) is that i generally always try to see the good in folk and dont hold grudges.

Jim only approached Ian and i in the middle of last week, inviting us up to the ground to "discuss some stuff". why did he invite us, only jim can answer that, but i would suggest it it may be to do with the fact he knows us, has spoken to us before on many occasions and obviously recognises skills in us that can be a benefit to One Thistle, that we have been involved in the singing section for a long time, we have made ourselves available in previous seasons and that everyone in the "shed" knows us.

don't get me wrong, i'm sure there are folk who look at us and turn their nose up at us, have a preconceived idea, but hey ho, thats probably because you haven't talked to us.... haven't spent a train journey to dingwall or ayr, or dundee that ends up in chaos, laughs, camradery and generally everyone as one!

i don't pretend to be a specialist in anything, i don't pretend to represent everyone and everything, i don't claim to be the jags number 1 fan. i just want change, for firhill to be fun again.

i think this is a great way to go about it.

Cheers for that Dave. I knew you were involved with the FMC, but I didn't realise there was any cooperation with the club there. I had not known that you were previously involved in the trust, that was probably just before I started visiting ptfc.net's forum. It seems very clear though that you were not one of those who are accused of harbouring an agenda that has prevented action from taking place throughout the history of the jags trust.

To me, this whole movement is positive, for the reasons you point out. Previous members of the thistle board have made it difficult for fans views to be listened to, however Jim and Ian have approached you and Ian as fans for help to improve atmosphere and matchday experience for fans. The focus is very clearly on fans, so why anyone can find fault I don't know. It's now up to us to help this work, not argue about petty insignificances.

Again, thanks for all the info. That post is proof you care enough to help make this work.

Twinny,

Re FMC, not so much co-operation with the Club, all they did was give us match day tickets to sell for the game at the pre match gig... and put a news item on the website.

But my aim for it was to get music fans to Firhill, and for Thistle fans to be introduced to good music. (it was ian_mac who assisted us on a couple of occasions, not ian maxwell, incase that's what you thought i meant).

On the subject of expanding the OneThistle, which I'm sure it will as time goes on. It has only recently just been launched. They have got a whole summer to be approached or reach out to fans for their ideas and contribution.

A good proposal I think would to gather a representative from all the supporters buses, whether they still run or not. So you would have the:

City Centre

Jordanhill

North-West

Bishopbriggs

Cumbernauld

East Kilbride

Summerston?

Jackie Husband?

I'm not meaning only one person from these buses chips in, helps out and others can't, just that a representative might make it easier to gather feedback in a quicker manner.

cough 'Edinburgh & EoS' cough

Other than the glaring ommision, not a bad idea.

Seriously, what are the Jags Trust bringing to the party here?

The same as always?

Good to see onethistle taking off & coming up with ideas that could improve the atmosphere/bring back fans. I'm not convinced that it will be a great success, moving the fans behind the goal, but if you don't try you don't know. Hope it works well & that can then lead to further initiatives being implemented that are hopefully a big success!

A football crowd sprinkled around 2, 3, or 4 sides of a football ground makes for a better atmosphere than the same number of people all at one side of the pitch.

Yes i agree, look at Queens Park.

then again if you sprinkle 400 fans to 4 sides that would not really make a difference to the atmosphere.

" sheds the suspicion and mistrust that has existed at firhill for so many years"

" i applaud everyone who gets involved and makes an effort to improve things. fact is it should have been done years ago."

Julie Ann you have made two points about how we have been run in the past and I therefore assume (perhaps wrongly) that you were/are unhappy of the management of PTFC to date -as a matter of interest and since you have called me out so to speak on my views on openess of roles and a closed shop why do you think there was a a culture of mistrust amd suspicion (and I agree there was) and who do you think was responsible -also what do you think has changed as to allow groups like onethistle to exist that wasnt in place in the past as you state it should have been done years ago.

As one of two posters who are obviuosly unhappy on how onethistle is being managed Im interested in your views as you are in effect saying the new group is somehow associated with the way in which ptfc has run itself in the past.

I think Onethistle is a great initiative; it gives people who talk the talk the opportunity to put their money or at least their time where their collective mouths are. It seems to have an openess and transparency rarely seen in Thistles past, so credit to the Board for this initiative and for those non Board members who have pledged time to move it forward.

As for the sniping from the sidelines, this will always occur. Of course when people on this very forum used to get personal messages/emails/legal letters from old Board members when their posts were seen as going too far, we had no hope of 'one Thistle'. indeed, I am sure there may still be grudges held in places which means that there will never be an inclusive One Thistle. But as long as those on the outside are the ones with a track record of failure, and the ones on the inside are united and have the interests of the club and all of the fans at heart, then we must surely be in a much better place than we have been for some considerable time.

The JH bus is , well maybe not dead as someone could start it again, but certainly dormant. Last of the funds were used up to run a cheap / free bus for the Dunfermline cup QF 5 years back under the Bunnet.

On topic, I'm very impressed with the ideas so far, but I think the ideas have always been there, it's that the club is listening now. My impression is Maxi deserves a lot of credit in this regard.

There's always going to be something to quibble about, but over the past few years we've made just about every mistake it's possible to make in terms of fan involvement and the end result, in terms of lasting achievement that actually benefits the fans and/or the club, has been absolutely zero.

If these guys have learned from where we went wrong (time and time again) in the past and can just get things done - and they clearly have, judging by what they've come up with so far - the onus is now on everyone else to get behind them and back it up.
