Lots of info just released by BBC including list of players paid through EBT. A few names that mean a lot to Thistle fans including Christian Nerlinger (2 goals in 2002 semi final) and Pedro Mendes (winner in last min of ET in League Cup game) and I'm sure lots of others.

But the morons think that they've done nothing wrong, and that they should't be punished "any more".....

Did Ferguson not score in the semi final and Boyd in the league cup game they too according to BBC were beneficiaries of the EBT scheme

I think you're right about both of those. I just grabbed first couple of names from list that jumped out at me. I'm sure someone with far too much time on their hands could go through all line ups vs us since 2001 and list how many were involved and what their contribution to game was!

As a number of people are pointing out elsewhere two noticable names not on the list are McCoist & Smith.

So, Nerlinger (2) and Fuddy Barry from the 2002 semi are implicated.

And Kevin MuskRat and Hutton from the 1-2 game in 2003.

And Boyd from the 1-1 game at Ibrox

And Boyd and Mendes from the 1-2 game the following season.

Draw yer own conclusion folks.................

And these are only our examples! I'm sure most clubs in Scotland's fans could go through list and come up with similar examples. I have no sympathy for anyone who says they are being unfairly punished. Cheating tax rules so you can afford better players cannot be condoned.

I presumed tonight's programme would largely go over old ground confirming what's been up to now innuendo and strong rumour. I also thought there'd be few surprises thrown in. Hadn't bargained for the surprises being Joanna Lumley, some sleazy porno guy and a prince albert :o . But then again I suppose that's why you call 'em surprises.

the porno guy was a total botton! - was he smoking donald findlay's pipe (oo-er missus!)

as usual the brouhaha about the program before airing was inversely proportional to the reality - could have been covered in a 3 minute news item instead of that twit stoating about with his display room

The EBT case is NOT at the moment and is highly unlikely ever to be a criminal charge. Rangers are appealing over HMRC's assessment of tax due. I would not be too surprised, if the delay in dealing with the case is not entirely unconnected with the contentious public atmosphere which inevitably surround any issue involving an institution like a football club. Nonetheless, I'd be amazed if the Orcs manage to extricate themselves from this. Particularly, when the prevalent Departmental attitude is bound to reflect a determination to ensure the protection of the revenue. I would also assess that the decision not to pursue Rangers under the criminal law may well have been different had the authorities been aware of the clubs practise viz. compliance. Unfortunately, for "ra Rangers" their tax liabilities appear to be only one of the many issues of corporate governance that raise concern. What last nights BBC programmer makes self evident is the lack of oversight by the media and those in charge of Scottish football in the financial affairs of Rangers. It is imperative that previous neglect on the part of the footballing authorities is not compounded by a lack of resolve to take the necessary remedial action in respect of the Ibrox club's fairly obvious non-compliance with SPL rules.

The evidence that the BBC disclosed on the EBT last night was perhaps the most interesting. What they told us was that there were Side Letters in the players contracts that guaranteed them a top up in their EBT. This would absolutely be in breach of the HMRC rules governing EBT schemes, but probably makes them safe from footballing sanctions due to dual contracts/unregistered players. They did say also that some players had been given EBTs without the side letters, these are probably safe from a tax point of view, but definately in breach of the footballing laws.

Damned if they do and damned if they dont.

Surely EUFA will be keeping a close eye on this. Is it not the case a few years back that the Swiss FA were going to go easy on some team that broke the rules and EUFA stepped in and forced them to take proper sanctions? (If so maybe we should all email EUFA with the BBC link?)

Edit: that Swiss thing was only a few months back!

It should be argued that having a side letter promising payments via EBT as well as an offical contract , is in effect a second unregistered contract.

SPL will hold off until any newco vote is taken place then retrospectively "punich" old Rangers and all will be as good as new as far as they are concerned. ******* stinks everything about them actually is worse than anyone ever thought.

Just think we may have had a Scottsih Cup final if they hadnt been playing the likes of Nerlinger that day :'(

Don't be daft. This is Thistle. Without the EBT players, Rangers would have lost to Berwick in the third round (they still needed a replay). The Thistle I know and love would have lost to Berwick in the semi final !

And now to turn the temperature up a bit, Duff & Phelps are apparently now in the process of instructing their lawyers to issue proceedings against the BBC on the grounds of "highly defamatory comments" made during the documentary. These comments apparently relate to the Beeb's suggestion that senior D&P partner, David Grier, was party to the deal at the time of Whyte's takeover as he attended a formal meeting, held in the April, at which the Ticketus funding situation was openly discussed. Minutes from the meeting show Grier as being present throughout, and photos are now available showing Whyte & co going into the meeting with Grier in tow.

Despite all that, D&P claim to have known nothing about the Ticketus deal until the August.

Uh oh.

Very big and very very dirty.

One of the defences stated in last night's programme seemed to be about being aware of 'a' Ticketus deal, but not 'the' Ticketus deal. This was never returned to, and I wonder whether that may be the grounds that D&P are claiming defamation.

It's not without credibility that Whyte negotiated one deal with Grier in attendance, then went on to negotiate the final deal in his absence.

On the plus side, if Rangers do have to reformed as a newco, does that mean anyone who supports them on the grounds that "it was their grandfather's team" no longer has that excuse?

The farce that is Rangers rumbles on regardless of how reality impinges upon it. We have D+P's insisting on presenting a CVA, which in all likelihood even they know is unlikely to be accepted. They, D+P's themselves are in a sticky position themselves and it would be a surprise to no one if a significant creditor e.g. HMRC moved to have them removed as administrators. HMRC, even if they don't move to remove D+P from their role, will at some point apply the coup de grace to the present company by not allowing the appeal from Rangers over the EBT's etc. The football authorities whilst no doubt anxious to ingratiate themselves with UEFA by hammering the h*ns for their breach of sporting ethics are no doubt bricking themselves over the prospect of their product losing a substantial amount of its revenue from that well known philanthropic body owned by good ol'e Rupe' Murdoch. The admixture is completed by a supporting cast of characters, a script writer for festive entertainment would baulk as being too far fetched to add as pantomime villains. Confused, you will be after the next episode of Rangers!

What I didn't understand was that if these EBTs were the bestest tax avoidance scheme ever and totally legal and above board (unless accompanied by a side letter guaranteeing their return), why were only 40% of the players on them? Who decided whether to offer an EBT or not? And how come both Sally and Sir Wally managed to avoid being embroilled in them too?

My suspicion is that their own personal accountants or FAs told them to avoid them like the plague.
