How Are People Feeling?

I'll admit it, last time we got back to the top flight (at Love St) I shed a tear or two, for footballing reasons and other reasons. Sure, what happened after wasn't great by any standards, even though there were some memorable (too few) victories. This time around, IF the team plays to the best of their ability, we should again win promotion to the elite level of Scottish football. I don't want to count chickens still in their eggs, but for some reason I detect a general lack of enthusiasm about our return to where we should be. Any thoughts?

IF (big if) we win the league and diddy cup this season it'll be comfortably the best season in my 25 of them supporting Thistle. Compared to the 2001/02 season which currently occupies this position, Airdrie finished on 56 points before their demise. Morton have 52 with 10 games to go so we're probably going to have to score in the mid 70s or higher to win it (compared to 66 in 01/02) unless they totally collapse, which despite Tuesday's result I feel is unlikely.

Also, we lost our manager mid-season, have been playing catch up on games, unlike the season above in which we had points on the board, and have had key players such as O'Donnell and Welsh missing for a fair chunk of the season. On a side note, although I don't rate Fox that highly, the period he was out the team coincided almost exactly with our bad spell.

If we win the league and lose to QoS it'll still probably be the best, but a small bit of shine will be taken off it. I know it's not a big trophy but it's still bigger than the Glasgow Cup and Tennents 6s which are the only two trophies I've seen us win. I'm looking forward to the day out and the experience of a cup final.

If, however, we don't win the league it'll be difficult to look back on the season with fondness despite all the great goals and football that's happened. The team is going to be broken up regardless of what we do but at least if we do win it it'll be regarded as "that team that won the league".

In terms of next season, the SPL isn't great, but neither is division 1. The first season back up if we do go up would be brilliant anyway, provided we don't get stranded at the bottom.

I would love to be back in the top flight again obviously, I'd give my left testicle for promotion. although I doubt we would stay up. a few players might be tempted to stay with us for a year in the SPL if we go up but if we don't then half of our team will be gone and we'll be back at square one again next summer, probably with an inexperienced manager (if Archie stays on) and a further reduced budget. the thought of going back to the middens of Killie, Motherwell, St Johnstone and Ross County again though doesn't excite me,

Absolutely bricking it & extremely excited at the same time!

Excited as it's the best team I've seen at Firhill, in footballing terms, probably ever! Was born in 1979, so been privy to quite a lot of dross...

Bricking it as, well, we're Thistle! We've got a great opportunity but we've seen it before & know how difficult it would be to bounce back if we don't win this league. It could be years before we make a challenge again.

SPL? Bring it on. We've learned from the mistakes of the past & if we go up with a decent sense of realism & don't expect to win every game or waste money on 'Jorge Cadete', then we'll all enjoy the ride & be no worse off for it.

Another way at looking at things is what's in store for the club that doesn't go up.

Just my opinion on the following.

Q o S will be back in Div 1, which is a positive in the enjoyable away days department. Airdrie will surely be missing so that's another plus. I detest going to Dens but that would be cancelled out by not having trips to Cappielow, which I detest nearly as much.

By the end of this season I'll probably have gone to watch us play at Central Pk four times so if we don't go up it would be preferable to lose them in the play offs, hopefully with Forfar or one of the other Angus clubs coming up.

Just had a glimpse into the future and Pars drop to Div 3 and Airdrie escape demotion yet again. :o:unsure: Maybees the SPL ain't that bad after all.

Lets be honest here..as Jags fans ALL we want is chance to the beat the ugly sisters...even if we don't the build up is great and if we get f ucked..the pelters are water off a ducks back.

Much better away days....Inverness, Dingwall...Old rivalries rekindled..Killie and those bassa Arabs.

Bring it on I say :happy2:

People on here talk the biggest load of shegite about wanting to stay in the first division..spl is pish etc

lets get it done :thumbsup2::music:

I'm looking forward to an exciting end to the season. We are in for more ups than downs over the coming weeks. I have faith in AA and Shaggy to keep the squad focussed on the task at hand. Archie has played all of his second spell in this league so has great experience. We also have a cup final to look forward to. So I'm relishing a great season of thrills, spills and goals. I hope we round it off with the double. We Believe :D

I wouldn't worry about attracting new players too much next season. Look at ICT, a virtually new squad of players and have done well with crowds not much bigger than ours. There will be hundreds of players looking for a team next season whatever division we are in. That debate is for a later date. We have a league and diddy cup to win.

COYJ!

70 points will win this league.

I think it will be nearer 75. Greenock have 52 already with 10 games left, so they would need to drop 12 points in them. Us & them have only lost 4 each all season so far. Points will be dropped by both of us, but not as many as 12 I don't think. If we can win all our home games (and although it's a tall order it is possible) then 10 points from 7 games on the road might be enough. Biggest banana skin home game might be Livvy, but of course us being Thistle we can take nothing for granted :innocent2:

Have you thought about Viagra ?

Loving the thought of getting to the SPL. The traditional clubs are as week as they have ever been, so even if we loose a few players (I don't think it will be as bad as some think) then there is still a great chance to establish ourselves in the top flight. Look at what Ross have done.

Nerve shredding fear.

I'm worried that if we don't get promoted this year then Erskine, O'Donnell, Sinclair, Bannigan etc. might leave and we'll be back to being a mid table 1st division team again. But a decent season in the SPL could set us up for a long run.

I think in our last SPL promotion we were clearly better than Airdrie and the result was never in doubt.

Not this year. Even Saturday's game against Dumbarton is massive and any slip ups will be hard to recover from.

No pressure though....

Be here now.

Yes! Whatever the outcome, this is the season we will talk about for years to come. Whether it be, "remember when…….." or, "if only we had…….", it's so good to be able to experience the moment.

The SPL may well be SPHell but, let's go for it, and let's go for it full-throttle!

We will never have a better chance or possibly a better team at this level so lets go for it and see what happens it's been a good season and could be a great one,Dumbarton next and it will be tough I reckon.

Bring it on thats what i say. If we got promoted and didnt lose too many of our squad I think we could hold our own in the spl. Apart from C***** I dont think we are far away from most of the other teams in the league. Some good away days weve not been too for a while and the buzz when we beat a so called bigger team. As others have said - if we dont go up our team will be ripped apart and its back to square one. The spl might be sh*** but hey is it any worse than the first division? Onwards and upwards!!!
