Transfer Targets

a player such as Harkins would be daft no to. He's unlikely to get capped, getting on a bit in age, decent wage, big crowds, plenty of publicity & live tv games and they're up a division. I think so far they are making more sensible signings than last season & probably paying them less than the likes of Black & Templeton

Apparently not

dont think we ever had a chance of harkins signing for us ...would you take a drop in wages by doing so? Dont think so!!!

As far as shuggie's concerned if we can get him to change his ways as has been suggested he could do a good defensive job for us, maybe archie could give him a final warning!

Well that's that then - I mean, who wouldn't turn down the chance to live in Kilmarnock?

Why do Killie players have to live the town? There are attractive alternatives in Ayrshire. Troon, Prestwick and Ayr are only a few miles away. Even Newton Mearns is just a short drive up the M77.

The rumours have been around for a few days at least. Saunders could be a good shout as back-up for O'Donnell but there could be better options, e.g. Darren Barr.

The manager has said that he has approached a considerable list of players but we are in competition with other clubs who can afford to offer better terms. However, there will be some players who can't get the money that they want and will then consider our offers.

We also have to field an under-20 side and it will have to include players who will challenge for places in the first-team. There could be some good loan options from south of the border. New managers will assess their squads in pre-season training before deciding on who to send out on loan. O'Donnell was such a signing and it worked out well.

It's frustrating that, despite everything that's happened in recent years, we are still being priced out by teams who have large unsustainable debts. This is not a criticism of Thistle, but will clubs never learn, and wouldn't a bit of financial fair play regulation be in order?

Couldn't agree more. There are clubs hiring players with money they simply don't have - not just in Scotland, but across Europe and beyond. Any club trying to work within a sustainable budget is at a competitive disadvantage. It's just no' fair! I think there are proposals from UEFA to do something about it, but there's too much of this money leaking into the pockets of agents and hangers-on for any serious change to happen any time soon. Meanwhile we'll lose players to clubs whose finances wouldn't stand any serious close scrutiny.

It's likely that most of the SPL clubs, especially those in debt, will be cutting their playing budgets. Squads will be reduced as well as wages. Agents may be demanding unrealistic wages and commissions but it will take a while for reality to sink in. The real negotiations will be begin as pre-seeason training approaches and players have to dig into their savings to pay the mortgages and bills. Archie is right not to rush in and pay over the odds.

We'd probably be able to offer about a quarter (at the most) of what Barr was on at Hearts. He's also a pish RB. I'd much rather have Saunders.
