  • We have succesfully maintained top flight status in 73 out of 80 attempts (1 of the failed attempts being an "artificial" relegation due to reconstruction).
  • We have won the Scottish Cup once in 121 attempts.
  • We have won the League Cup once in 67 attempts.
  • We have never won The Challenge Cup in 16 attempts.

Although Jags finished bottom of the old First Division in 1908-09 they were spared relegation when the Second Division champions, Abercorn, "failed to win re-election" (I wonder why???)

Abercorn won the Second Division championship in 1909 and were runners-up in 1912, but failed to win re-election to the First Division in either year. The club dropped out of the Scottish Football League in 1915, when the Second Division went into abeyance due to the first World War. Abercorn were founder members of the Scottish Football League, but eventually could not compete with local rivals St. Mirren and closed down during the 1920–21 season.

Thistle have went through 5 League seasons unbeaten at home.

4 times when we became second tier Champions :)

1896-97 (8-1-0, 34-12) at Inchview, Whiteinch

1899-00 (9-0-0, 33-10) at Meadowside, Partick

1970-71 (16-2-0, 53-9) at Firhill Stadium, Maryhill

2001-02 (12-6-0, 38-15) at Firhill Stadium, Maryhill

And even once in the top flight (when we finished 4th) :o

1910-11 (13-4-0, 30-12) at Firhill Stadium, Maryhill

Thistle, on average, finish the season as Scotland's 11th most succesful League club.

(or 11.318584 to be precise)

This represents a sharp decline in fortunes since the Jags were relegated from the Premier League in 1981-82. At that time, Thistle finished, on average, as Scotland's 9th most succesful League club.

(or 9.3780487 to be precise)

The Scottish Cup, the oldest national trophy in the world, was first contested in 1873–74. Thistle first took part in 1880-81. Niall Kennedy explains Thistle's Cup debut brilliantly:

"Interest began to build for Thistle’s first foray into the Scottish Cup, and supporters were disappointed when the draw paired the club with Dennistoun away rather than a big name team. Perhaps Thistle’s reputation preceded them, because the opponents scratched before the match and Thistle continued into the second round.

The Scottish Cup (Second Round) eventually arrived, although it was again an away fixture against a lesser side, this time against Jordanhill. A crowd of 300 watched the game and saw Beaton score an early goal for Thistle, while at the other end the Thistle backs were having a fine game. Later in the game Thistle again scored, but the goal was ruled out by the referee after Jordanhill appealed against it. The appeals procedure, while making games unpredictable, kept an SFA committee busy after each round of competition, as teams and officials rarely agreed on referee’s decisions. The game, however, ended 1-0 to Partick Thistle, and the first venture into the national competition had been successful.

The visit to Govan to play Rangers in the third round was the first encounter between the two teams in a remarkable series of games which saw Thistle retain the upper hand over their neighbours for a long spell. However, the first game in the sequence of games saw the more experienced Rangers win 3-0 in front of a crowd of around 1,000 at Kinning Park – the biggest a Thistle team had played in front of. Although Thistle played well, Andrew Duff in goals especially, their shooting in front of goal was too erratic and Rangers superior play won out."

Apart from the two World Wars, since 1873–74, the only time the Scottish Cup has not been awarded was in season 1908-09...

...when it was witheld due to serious riots in the replay of the final between Rangers and Celtic...

To both of the arse cheeks I say this - you're a disgrace to the nation. :red_card:

Are we the only side to hold the Dental Cup?

Apparently so...

One-off competition to help raise funds for the building of a new dental hospital in Glasgow. All the games were poorly supported from which £819 was raised.

Winners
