Highlandjag
Just read in this morning's papers that a 17 year old player for East Stirling was racially abused at Peterhead. He is still at school and was apparently taken off the pitch in tears by his manager. What a terrible experience and a shameful one for Peterhead and indeed Scottish football. Hopefully it was just one or two ignorant individuals involved but Peterhead FC and the SFA need to take actions to stop this happening again. digger
If the boy was racially abused on the pitch by the opposition players then they took the wrong person off the pitch.
stillresigned
This sort of thing should be condemned unequivocally and the perpetrators if found should be punished accordingly, so glad we don't have anything like this in the West of Scotland- oops don't mention sectarianism. peagreenboy
If the abuse was coming from the crowd, surely it couldn't have been too hard for stewards, police to identify the people and arrest them - there was only 554 people there! So, don't. The degree of ignorance and stupidity that fuels racial abuse is on a completely different level of fatuous bigotry. People can, and often do, change their religious beleifs and which sect they choose to join. How can this lad convert the colour of his skin? Mr Bunny
So, don't. The degree of ignorance and stupidity that fuels racial abuse is on a completely different level of fatuous bigotry. People can, and often do, change their religious beleifs and which sect they choose to join. How can this lad convert the colour of his skin? Don't accept your argument. Are you suggesting people suffering religious abuse change their religion? Well of course you're not so that means there's no difference in essence - although of course in different societies at different times one can be worse than the other. Over all there's normally a lot less overt sectarianism (outside of Ibrox during footie matches) - we're no longer in the days when what school you went to and whether you had a "Timmy" name could deny you a job but we still occasionally see people being physically attacked because of mindless religious hatred. But whether you believe racism is a nastier problem at present in our country or not they are both problems that need addressing.
Yellow & Redneck
Truly shameful to hear this. Any player or fan caught racially abusing another player should be ejected and face a lifetime ban both from the stands, and from the pitch. On the subject of sectarianism that has been mentioned above, it takes on another meaning in the West of Scotland. Being a Rangers fan makes you a "Proddy," whilst the Celtic fans are all "Caf-licks." I would be stunned if more than 10% of Rangers or Celtic fans actually practice the religious denomination they so proudly cling to. ian_mac
Absolutely disgusting to hear this - if true. Have to say Peterhead isn't the nicest place in the world.

This is true but it grew out of religious hatred and the fact that it more 'tribalism' with very little genuine religious belief involved - doesn't negate the fact that it is religious focussed (i.e. they hate cafflics or proddies). The the hatred has been passed down the generations and thrived while the religion that they used to follow now forms very little if any part of their lives. Possibly in part because Christian religion (s) in this country has become more moderate and willing to cooperate with and tolerate other sects while these individuals can't bear (NPI) to do that. They still consider themselves as in some way 'defending' their religion but that of course is a nonsense fantasy. Doesn't stop a large minority of them being dangerous though. Charlie Endell
Poor lad was greeting due to it and had to be taken off. Don't know it there were any John Law at the game but surely the stewards at least should've ejected the perpetrator(s).

My girlfriends cousin plays for east Stirling (came on as a sub during the game) and said there was monkey chants throughout the game. No police at the game and they asked the game to be stopped but the ref refused. It was a group of young boys supposedly. I hope they are proud of themselves, truly pathetic. Surely, Peterhead must have stewards or staff who could have ejected the miscreants. Alternatively, the Police should have been called to arrest them. The referee should give an account of the incidents, the players' complaints and his actions in his match report. The SPFL and SFA should now investigate the incidents(s) and take action quickly. Big Col
Would it be too much to expect fellow Peterhead fans to tell the wee ***** to shut the **** up and behave themselves? By not doing so, is that not tacit acceptance of their actions?

You'd have thought so tho' it's possible these idiots were distant from the main body of fans. I'm not sure why the police weren't called at the time the ref stopped the match. There was still 15 minutes or so to play.

Jaggernaut
It seems odd (and totally unacceptable) that nobody, not players, officials, stewards, other fans, took any action to stop this happening. Has it been reported in any media?
p12tfc
Wonder what the sfa/spfl would do if a team such as East Stirlingshire did pull their players off the pitch and refuse to play. Would imagine it would quite a backlash if they punished them for it. Thoughts?
Drew37
Report on BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/26407000 Extract... "The club can confirm that these incidents caused extreme distress to our player and this led to our coaching staff substituting the player from the field of play to protect him from any further possible recurrence of this abuse. "Peterhead FC took immediate steps to identify the culprits and Jordan received a personal apology from their chairman, Rodger Morrison. East Stirlingshire FC will lend every assistance possible to Peterhead FC in trying to pick out those responsible. "Furthermore, the club will be contacting the SFA and the Scottish Professional Football League to highlight what has happened and to urge them to take whatever steps are necessary under their rules to deal with the matter. "Above all, though, the club has offered its complete support to Jordan and his family after what has been a very distressing episode." Club secretary Tadek Kopszywa added that the player had been "visibly upset by the incident". A police spokesperson said: "Racial abuse in any form is not only completely unacceptable, it is also criminal. "We will be liaising closely with both football clubs to thoroughly investigate this incident which, at this time, would appear to have involved a small minority of people. "We ask any supporters who saw or heard anything of a racist nature to get in touch with Police Scotland." Drew37
From the Daily record... The statement said: “Players from both sides were aware of the abuse and it is disappointing that even though it was reported to match officials, by players of both teams, during the game it was allowed to continue until the coaching staff made the decision to remove the player for his own protection. “We wish to place on record our full support to our team-mate Jordan Tapping and our non-tolerance of any racial abuse within Scottish football.” Tapping was applauded off the park by team-mates, with some Peterhead players consoling him as he left the pitch. There was anger within the ranks of the Peterhead support at the idiots who have shamed their name. On an online supporters’ forum, one fan said: “It was quite clearly audible over a fair area. “Most folk, including our players in that area, were obviously embarrassed by the stupid shout by an individual behind the goal.[ “Security were pointed in the general direction but don’t know if the person responsible was found or not.”[/size] Edited March 3, 2014 by Drew37
