Losing Late Goals

I hadn't realised that 3 of the games at the weekend had injury time goals that had serious implications for the teams conceding:-

The Hibees lost a goal and got relegated

Athletico Madrid lost a goal and lost the Champions League and

Derby lost a late goal to QPR's only shot in the richest game in football

Earlier in the season Liverpool lost 3 goals in 10 mins to Crystal Palace which effectively lost them the league.

It just shows how important concentrating for the whole game is.

And also that desperation brings inspiration.

All 3 goals were very well taken. Hamilton's was a superb team move.

A few people on here seemed to think that losing late goals last season was a Thistle copyright. Good to see the top teams also lose goals in latter stages of games. Games last on average 94 mins and goals can be scored anytime. Gut wrenching when you lose one and exhilarating when you score one,

Only once before the Hibs game has a premier side been relegated through a play-off, and there was a very late goal in that game. I still have nightmares over it. Hibs fans will not forget that moment for a long time. In that respect only I have a tiny bit of sympathy for them.

Pretty sure I read on here that we blew something like 14 points in the last 5 minutes of games this season.

Off the top of my head I can think of 1-1 instead of 1-0 at Easter Road (twice), same score v Killie at Firhill (last minute penalty rebound goal) and ending up 3-2 down at Fir Park having been 2-1 up.

Thank Christ we're not susceptible to losing late goals.

Was thinking that myself :D

But don't get sucked in to believing that goals in the last ten minutes was our near downfall. Nearly lost money thinking we'd have been long time safe if games only lasted 80 minutes. In fact if someone did the arithmetic you'd see the differential was minimal.

Thistle leasgue games where the result (not just the scoreline) changed in the last 10 minutes

31/08/13 St. Mirren 0-1 to 2-1 (+3) (Gained 3 points)

20/10/13 Inverness 1-1 to 2-1 (+2)

07/12/13 Hibs 1-0 to 1-1 (-2)

18/01/14 Kilmarnock 1-0 to 1-1 (-2)

15/02/14 Motherwell 3-2 to 3-4 (-3)

29/03/14 St.Johnstone 0-1 to 1-1 (+1)

19/04/14 Kilmarnock 1-1 to 2-1 (+2)

03/05/14 Hibs 1-0 to 1-1 (-2)

So that's net 1 point lost over the season due to the last 10 minutes.

As Read'n'Yell has indicated, however, when you take it over the last 5 minutes (Goals scored after 86 minutes) you get

07/12/13 Hibs 1-0 to 1-1 (-2)

18/01/14 Kilmarnock 1-0 to 1-1 (-2)

15/02/14 Motherwell 3-3 to 3-4 (-1)

03/05/14 Hibs 1-0 to 1-1 (-2)

7 points lost!
